Same here, never stretch. Just get on and ride.

Laterly been getting some lower back pain and some sensation iny right leg that seems to go a bit weak.

I have been doing a few specific stretches during the week like yoga ones that target the lower back but they can be tough do do cos i am not very flexible.

Sounds like a pinched nerve on your lower back. I have the same issue with lower back and pain going down left leg to behind knee.

Only after, or after a very good warm up. Never without a decent warm up first.

Do many of the regular kinds of stretches, but since an MTB crash a few years back left me prone to lower back issues, I've since incorporated some yoga stretches, as these target the problematic areas (hip flexors) a lot better than the stretches I normally did. Pigeon pose has to be my favorite at the moment as it provides almost instant relief from lower back distresses i'm prone to.

Elaborate on Pigeon pose???

I'm recovering from ITB ( from doing that non-biking idiocy), and I find the pigeon pose takes care of a few pains and over-tightness almost immediately. Lower back, knees, glutes...but it's not a fun stretch.

What kind of stretching do you do personally? How long do you go at it? Any info will be appreciated.

Only on my Vitality self assessment.

And as Vitality have changed their physical fitness assessment from cardio steps to stretching I'll be avoiding that humiliation of being asked to touch my toes while the biokineticist measures the deficit this year too. I mean, how silly is that, asking a guy with 96cm inseam to touch his toes?

Nut I have downloaded tons of how to articles. Good intentions have never got past that.

This is bizarre, I thought you always had to stretch before riding

Lately I can feel a pulling in my left hamstring in the beginning of a ride....nothing major but it seems to have only started lately, funnily enough, since I've been doing more stretching before a ride??

Maybe time to ditch the pre ride stretch then!!

Thats what i am thinking. It started when i could hardly even move in bed and had roll out the lower back was so stiff.

Then agter some painkillers and heat gels got a bit better and then my hip strated to get some sensation and then my leg.

It has not gone away and is still there. How to i get rid of it or unpinch the nerve if it is that?

Always stretch after exercise while still warm, or maybe a little during exercise if something is worrying you...never stretch with cold muscles.

Also stretching muscles is not recommended before a race or an event where you want your muscles to perform at their best. Warm up yes..stretch nope

This. Stretching before exercise not only put you at risk of muscle tearing, but also reduces performance for the first 20-30min of your exercise (or something like that).

I never really stretched until I picked up some back / glute type injuries and my physio told me my hip flexors are stiff AF.... So now I stretch and roll - post exercise. I also do a lot of dynamic stretches to help with running form and muscle engagment.

I have a 94cm inseam and at 188cm I would say my legs are proportionally longer than my upper body.

I find some regular practice helps, even with telephone poles for legs I can put my hands flat on the floor.
