Best bike computer/gps?

Hi All,

Any thoughts? Budget 5K.

The Garmin Edge 520 looks great but a bit pricey. I like the polar V650 but no navigation maps.

What would be sufficient for a multi stage race?

You would also need something like the Amped portable charger...

I am going with the Polar M450 based on good reviews online.

* The Garmin Edge 520 is clearly the best by some way out there but a tad bit expensive.

* The Polar V650 is a great computer but a little too big and bulky.

* The Garmin Edge 25 is great computer and the bread crumbing feature is nice but would like a bigger screen.

* The Garmin Edge 510 is discontinued by Garmin and not sure if I would want to invest in something that is discontinued.

* The Garmin Edge 500 is a great GPS but bit long in the tooth

I rode Sani2c last year and think a full GPS is overkill - the route is well marked and also you follow the other riders.

Garmin edge 520 is probably the best unit . If you need mapping then a phone works but expensive when traveling abroad. 530 gives useful turn signals and it does almost everything the 1000 does in a better form factor and doesn't say "ponce".

The new polar and lezyne units are also nice. But garmin back up is second to none

Worst. idea. ever

Just get a second hand 520.

What the online reviews dont tell you is how often other units go haywire and how good the aftersale service is.

Garmin is miles above the rest, smashed a screen on a second hand unit, they traded it in no questions asked for a new unit with a small pay in.

Oh dear. Looks like you will learn the hard way then.

There can be only one. Garmin.

Saxy...

That is pretty saxy.... and I like that it can control my Kickr.... and the led indicators.... but Garmin is so good at the moment that it's gonna be hard to beat them.

Have a look at what you will get when you sell the Polar and start saving now for a Garmin.

Does it actually have a GPS though or does it use the GPS in your phone and just display information?

If it requires a phone to operate then Im not sure how useful it actually is.

Has full functionality without your phone. It does however give you a bunch of additional features when your phone is close i.e "Find My Friends" and Call and Text notifications.

I have had many a device in my day........

There can only be one.

Garmin.

Don't, for one second, think you will be happy with anything else.

There are a couple of hungry companies out there... People aren't scared to buy new brands, the innovation and simplicity of new brands/products impress me the most.

Wrong move on the Polar!

Garmin after sale service is second to none...on three occasions they have helped me out big time. Very quick and professional.

Ditto. Broken screen.

Was there for 5 mins and walked out with a brand new unit with all the goodies in the box. New HR strap is cool too....
