I Received the sms for my licence collection on Wednesday. I Was at my SAPS office 5 minutes later and at the gun shop 15 minutes after collecting my licence.

I Am stoked to have gotten it just in time before the lock down. Only bummer is that I don't know how long it's going to take before I can get it to the range. I'll be admiring and fondling it at home for the next couple of weeks.

If you have access to a quiet bit of farm somewhere, or a friendly farmer you can ask, it is well worth getting a trap machine of your own.

I first got a basic manual trap that can only throw a single normal clay like in your picture. Simple ones are pretty cheap, under R1000. Later I got an auto trap that can stack about 50 clays at a time and you can release with a foot control, so you can throw and shoot without any help. It runs off a car battery and can also throw doubles and minis. But it is plenty expensive. I bought it together with 2 of my friends. Initially all used it often, now I'm the only one. Bargain. If you do get a trap machine, remember that they are just about as dangerous as a shotgun and that they should be treated with the same absolutely rigid safety rules. If you do get permission to throw clays on someones farm, please make a special effort to clean up afterwards. There is nothing as horrible looking as a whole lot of bright orange bits and pieces all over the place. Even if the farmer understands that the orange will biodegrade sooner or later, his wife will be pissed off and that will mean the end of the privilege.

I don't know about your part of the world, but in cape Town, Suburban Guns stock the biggest range of traps.

I doubt I will get back into Hunting as it was something I did while I was young. I really enjoyed the aspect of hunting. Going out once a year with my buddy, camping, drinking old brown sherry around a fire on a cold night in the Karoo and walking for km's each day and patiently waiting for the right kill.

I never kept a trophy or the pelt. I only took home my share of the meat and biltong.

If I ever did decide to get back into hunting this would be my first choice.

I have a brand new unopened box of Rudolph electronic ear muffs. They go for almost R1000 new. Would anyone be interesting in purchasing them from me? Would be looking for R800 for them but open to offers

I need some help. I've been looking at a .22 rifle and trying to find more information on. It's called a unique. I think it's swiss or german made. Beautiful rifle, lovely wooden stock, trigger has had some work. BSA scope, threaded barrel. All for a great price.

I'm waiting for pictures of the name on the rifle but I've goggled and have come across "unique alpine" firearms: https://www.unique-alpine.com/en/products/hunting

But this particular rifle is maybe a bit older. Does anyone recognise this perhaps?

But I'll have to wait until after lockdown to buy it, which will be super frustrating but something to look forward to I guess

so I've done some research and got some new photos. Turns out it's french from a company called Unique. The company was bought over early 2000 I think so this is an earlier model, pre 2000 possibly. It's the Unique Audax model and I've seen them going for 4 times what I can this one for, and not all of them have scope. So I'm quite excited about this find. It's in great condition. The stock looks almost dirty in the pictures but in reality it's clean. The scope rings just need a clean.

Can't wait until lockdown is lowered

so my local dfo is open for applications, have an apt next Wednesday to submit my license application

Yes, the directive to get their applications going came through last week. Also a reminder for all who must try to get expired licences sorted, it is now possible, but you'll have to get moving because the amnesty period ends at the end of May.

Make sure you are strong on motivation for the .22. Add everything you can reasonably claim as true:

It is an excellent rifle to train with and improve your marksmanship for hunting.

It is cost effective because ammunition is cheap and you can shoot more to improve your marksmanship

It can be used for target shooting - helps if you belong to a club

It has very low recoil, good for lots of training

Stuff like that, the more the better

so I've typed up a motivation based on previous motivations and what everyone has recommended. I have had someone else check it but would anyone here be willing to quickly read through it and let me know what they think? Please pm your email and I can send it through
