What's tougher TDF or cape epic?

Wait... This is not a fair comparison, take those europro pansies and put them in a little blue tent next to a row of portaloos between each stage first!

Tough question.

Up there with would you rather spend 3 weeks with Kiera Knightley or 8 days with Judi Densh.......

That's actually easy eddy. 3 Weeks with Keira Knightley every time!

Comparing average Joe riding the Epic to the Pro's riding the Tour is pretty much useless.

If the average Joe could ride the exact same route of the Tour, but has to finish each stage within a certain time like at the Epic, then one is comparing the two events on more or less equal terms.

Without having done either event, the Tour would appear to be harder.

Wow, tent and portaloo ready and waiting, that sounds great!

p.s I'm not taking anything away from the peeps that completed the Cape Epic. I'm sure it was grueling, especially for Max on his single speed!

Hey Jakkals; you have a point. Imagine a single speed at the TdF!!    That pretty much says it all.

But hats off to Max; single speed; minimal suspension; no wonder he has a physio and doctor in his "team". Needs a kop dokter.

Call it the Tour de Afrique de Sud and the MTB's riding from CPT via Garden route through Transkei into KZN and pushing on to finnish in Jozie/Pretoria via a 2500'ish km route...

Imagine the cost, ...have the race pass Nkandla aswell...

Mountain biking is just for fun

Real racing happens on the road

Ask Evans, Hejsedal, Sagan, Peraud, Landis, Fuglsang etc

What i think is indisputable is that riding a mountain bike offroad is far more demanding than speeding along on a narrow tired 7kg racer. So what is the equivalent road distance for say a 100km MTB Epic stage? Say 180km on the road - or make it 2:1 to make the calculation simpler? Do the maths then - the TDF is 3 weeks and covers how many km? Is that more than the Epic? Yes, I believe it is even with the distance corrected for the epic to say 1500km, the TDF is far longer and therefore tougher.

Maybe a 2 weeks epic where they actually travel around the country would be a match for the TDF?

Epic is much tougher by far.........what a stupid question.....

Especially this years epic with all that climbing and technical stuff thrown in...

Was told doing a sub 3 at the CTCT is more difficult than the Epic man... :P

Thats wrong on two counts. Even I have done a sub 3 but could not even get an entry to the Epic, let alone ride it. Now its unaffordable too.
