Thinking of doing the Sani on a Tandem with my wife. We are both experienced tandem riders, but my wife prefer not to do too technical stuff. How technical is the Sani? Who has done the Sani on a tandem before?

There were 3 tandems at Joberg2C last year.

One of them had a blind stoker and, as far as I recall, all the completed the entire route.

I'm pretty sure The EPIC has been done on a tandem with a blind stoker. Probably the same guy. RESPECT.

Don't ride over the floating bridge on the dam on day 1. The weight of the tandem will sink on the bridge.

I also think the plastic floating bridge at the end on Day 3 would be a problem. That is tricky on a single bike with it's sudden swaying movements.

I think both of these have a chicken run. Otherwise I don't think there are serious challenges.

Switchbacks on D2 might just be frustrating for everyone behind you

they crashed on D7 or D8 and his driver broke his collarbone or something.  He did finish with another rider in the event taking over responsibility if i can remember correctly (Dunno about the original driver)

I know the tandems finished, but I don't know if they managed to ride all those switchbacks. If they did, that's the kind of thing I would like to see in a highlights package - not from behind them...

Epic 2006 some mad guys did it (I think the Stoker had a Rasta wig on or was a Rasta) and they were stupid fast even on the old national DH course near Franschhoek. THey were an awesome spectacle on the flat long roads though - flying along with dreadlocks going everywhere.

It was great to watch them maneuver it around the switchbacks on the single track - that took come composure and coordination.

Any gravel road in and around Pta East; Rosemary Hill, Big Red Barn, did the Trailseeker in Hazeldean; also did the KKK, (7 Passes rd, Prince Alfred and Swartberg Pass). I am wary of the switchbacks as I do not want to cause frustration to other riders.

Big red barn should put you on s2c level. Minus the spectacular scenery.

Do you think you and the missus will not be able to ride the switchbacks? Therefore causing frustration? Or are you just scared of being slow around them?

If you are able to ride the switchbacks, I say bugger the rest of the riders. There are a and b batch riders that also crap their bibs when they negotiate the switchbacks. You also paid to ride, so fuggem. They need to give you space and opportunity.

Sani a walk in the park, if you wanna scare her berg and bush..

There was a tandem riding the B&B Descent with us last year. A guy with his wife on the back. She said the Drakensberg drop was something else...
