First 947 (first road race for that matter)...

I'm coming from Pretoria and was going to park in Silver. However, I was planning to be there by 6am, and chill in the Charity Village until closer to our start time (BB - 8h17).

If I interpret the map correctly, I won't be able to get from Silver to the Charity village, the start pens are presumably one-way traffic?

So I should go for Purple, and then I could make my way across?

Words of caution - as previously confirmed on this forum on the Monday after the event:

The traffic jams coming in from the N14 were bad - people would park just off the N14 and cycle down to the start - will add the link as soon as I find it ---> https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/148557-2015-momentum-947/page-102

Purple would be better, if you want to get to the charity village - but bear in mind that it could take you a bit longer to get into the parking.

Thanks!

I could come in via N1/Main Road and park in Green, it just seemed like the longer way around.

Maybe other hubbers from your side can post their experience coming in from the N14 side. I can only share what I've read.

On my last 94,7 two years ago I was there very early and the traffic was BAD.  Got parking but the queue was very long.  I always just got the the 94,7 as early as possible.  On the times when I did not get a good seeding I would just take a nap and have breakfast in the car while waiting.

I heard the traffic last year was Ok?? For a 6h30 start, travelling from the EAST, what time should we leave home?

I think the N1 > William Nicol will be the best option. I used this previously and it was much better than the N14

i always meant to go to Kyalami when it was open in the evenings for cycling. If I remember correctly the advert was for "runners, cyclists and roller-bladers".

and how insane were those Rollerbladers.

I also start at 6.30 .Last two years we left Alberton no later than 4.30. You arrive at 5 or just after. Lots of parking.

After that it fills up fast. You'll have time to kill. Better than sitting stressed out in a queue.

That's basically our plan N12/N3/N1 - Willian N and relax...for me the traffic is the only thing that as kept me away from the 94.7!

Really looking forward to a safe ride and a 3hrish finish

I may be wrong, but I previously recall reading that the Steyn City speed bumps were gonna be flattened out or removed.

Now an email stating to slow down for the speed bumps?

The speed bumps are still there but have had a layer of tar over them to make them less harsh.
