JUMA 2016

I suspect the noobs that were there on year 1, won't be coming back. At least that is the hope.

Other than 1 or 2 bottlenecks in the beginning, I didn't have any problem with the issues most of the guys are complaining about.

There were "technical" elements to the ride, like the hidden or dark obstacles, but I thought that added to the day.

I seem to remember that there was way too much food & drink afterwards.... hic....

Apparently this year the 22km is for the newbies and the 54km for the 'better' riders.

The problem was they specifically said on the site two years back that it was a race/ride/adventure/whatever you want to call it, for 'everyone' and I think a lot of people got one hell of a shock.

JUMA guys just can't win it seems. Persistent rains the last 24 hours... Hope for their sake all structures remain in place, but they should have enough time to repair before the event.

I was thinking the same thing last night. If it had to rain out again I believe that would be the end of it.

Inside information tells me they are far better prepared for this years event and have learned the mistakes from the last run. Give an event at least two runs before criticizing guys - putting on something like this is no easy task. If after this run it still sucks lets flay them alive!! Moving the event to a hopefully drier time of the year was the first of the clever moves by the organisers, lets see how many other issues they have resolved. Yup, I'm riding and looking forward to it. Missed the first one and was quite bleak that I didn't enter on time.

Not so much inside, the organizer Russell Willis appeared on Supercycling and mentioned it.

There's a fair amount of scaffolding damage after the last couple of days of rain - going to have to do some repair work.... lots of repair work...

I was hoping this wouldn't be the case.. Repeat of last year :/

I did the first event and did the 54 k. I wouldn't say that it is difficult, just keep your wits about you on the slippery stuff.

I see they want us to go to Marks Park again to get the goodie bag;

"Remember, even if you did enter last year you still have to come to registration to get your race pack and race info"

I assume if have an SAS board can actually just pitch on the day without having to drive 40km to own more nutrilife products?

Full disclosure - I have given my entry away as I am honestly a bit scared of this race and will likely be seeded to start at 10 am so i will very likely not enjoy it. I don't want to walk stuff i can ride happily on my own but anyway I have banged that drum already...

However was on the Spruit yesterday and on some of the obstacles. And there were lots of people doing the pre-ride it looked like. Some very noob looking and discussing obstacles with their spouses....

Some things I noticed:

1.) THe steel ramps through the storm water drain at Tana road are very slippery. I nearly had a front wheel washout on one section - and i have very good tyres on. So be careful as the spruit is wet and muddy and those ramps are going to be like glass, never mind some of the wooden bridges. Steel and wood with a coating of mud on the top is just scary. I hope the organisers do something to address it as right now it would be a dangerous proposition after 500 riders have left their layer of mud on the once grippy surfaces....

2.) The tunnels are very dark and if you have an issue with light dark or night vision you will likely be going off things blindly. Also not able to see your landings.

Anyway good luck guys keep it safe.
