Captain Fastbastard Mayhem Posted May 17, 2016 Share Has anyone tried the FirstAscent free rider shoes? My xc shoes are on their last legs and was thinking of trying those free riders with the possibility of trying some flats to work on some skills but with the fallback of going back to my trail pedals if the flats don't work out?Don't. Not as a flats shoe. Lugs are too big to be of any use on flats. To expand - don't use shoes that are designed to be used as SPD shoes, as shoes to be used with flat pedals. it just won't work. NicoBoshoff Posted May 17, 2016 Share Hi guys, may I ask a stupid question? Please preach to me about the flat pedal gospel so I can understand?is it for Downhill only? Do you not have more control with cleats? Please enlighten me so that I can maybe convert as well? I have been playing with the idea but cannot see myself changing. awaiting some good advice. All you need to know is that once you buy flat pedlas you need to clear some space on your wall...for the medals. Captain Fastbastard Mayhem Posted May 17, 2016 Share One guy...And all the others - LEARNT on flats. That's the thing. If you learn on flats, the skills are transferable. That is not in question. If you start on cleats, you WILL learn bad technique. Piston ZA and Robodog

Eldron Posted May 17, 2016 Share Steady on chaps - you're starting to get to zealot flat pedal stage Flats are great for improving technique and sorting out basics of riding (kinda like improving your golf swing) - they are not the best pedal for the vast majority of riders who just want to ride their fastest local marathon - or any form of racing other than Enduro/DH. igg Posted May 17, 2016 Share Due to lack of stock of five-tens in my size, and the Spaz not feeling right and just too stiff for my liking, I just ordered these as Adidas generally fit me pretty well:https://shop.adidas.co.za/terrex-trail-cross-sl-shoes-122607.html Signed up for the newsletter and used the 15% discount code. R1360 isn't too bad for a pair of cycling shoes. Josh0, AlanD and Piston ZA
