Rocket-Boy, do you have a handheld router?  If so, try a router sled to flatten it out.

Ooh I like that idea, might pick up on that one. I dont have a router but my my dad has one that I borrow when I need to. Looks like quite a simple but effective idea.

Hell, you bunch of wussies! What is wrong with using a Jack plane?

(Says he who has been sweating the past few days trying to true a bunch a warped and bowed pine beams).  :whistling:

I have been holding off posting the pics of my restoration queue for a bit, mostly because I havent had space to unpack all of them...

There is a no8 in there that I might do a basic clean up on just to get it going for now.

My go to workhorses are my No 6 Stanley and my Veritas LA Jack with both normal and toothed blade. The Veritas is splendid with preventing tearout around those massive pine knots where the grain goes nuts.

If you have not yet got a Veritas LA Jack, save money and get one. You will be so glad you did. It is not without reason one of their hottest sellers.

The Veritas LA jack makes me properly excited whenever I look at it. I battle to get my head around what it costs in SA especially when you convert the US price of it. Pretty much everything Veritas makes is awesome, Im going to get some friends to bring me a marking gauge when they are out from the states in the next few months.

FYI, recently purchase a veritas dual marking gauge from hardware center. Half the price quoted by Tools4wood, and Toolcraft doesn't have stock yet. R800 is a bargain. Pity it they didn't have stock of the shaft clamp. Even bigger pity that Veritas doesn't add to the package.

I think I need to make a visit to hardware center when Im in JHB again. Only seen Veritas at tools4wood and their prices on those are a bit nuts.

If you want it at this price, then order one while there's stock available. There were three in stock at the Cape Town branch when I bought mine this past Sat.

Toolcraft has some veritas stuff coming in within 3 weeks. But not sure if dual marking gauges form part of that consignment. With forex going for woopsie, R800 might be a the best you can do for a while, and it compares very, very well to overseas pricing

Yeah, but your great grandkids wouldn't be able to use it 80 years from now....

Why are people so reluctant to spend good money on tools?

Have we become so used to cheap Chinese tools that we forget that many years ago our grandfathers spend a month's wages on a good Stanley plane (when they were still built in the USA) and a Rabone or Starret combination square.

No wonder then that these days you can only find cheap Chinese tools in the big stores.
