bodger Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 SA ladies were very lax trying to score the points .. they should have been riding more UCI races (perhaps smaller races) to score points, qualifying criteria was set long ago. Mariske was injured much of 2015 but is still ranked 60th (530) regardless of the off time, Cherie did her best to score points and is currently 30th (812). ZA ladies have a total of 3155 points so between the two of them they have earned moving towards half all the points. There isn't much more they could have done besides Mariske not being injured which isn't something that could be avoided. Other woman really needed to come to the party with points but its obviously not a priority for them to see a ZA lady at the Olympics. raptor-22 and Gen 2

We have said it before and I say it again.. if you want to make you have to take matters into your own hands.. you cannot wait for sponsors to send you to Europe you will have to decide yes I want to give it a go and make your own way to Europe work jobs to pay your way and do races on weekends... just like Burry did in the beginning of his career too many riders are waiting for things to happen to them and not making things happen for themselves. Guest Lancesball Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 They didn't score enough UCI points If you watched the women's XCO on Sunday you would've seen why the German ladies were so happy with their placements . It was the last chance to score points and they did enough to send I think 3 ladies to RIO. SA ladies were very lax trying to score the points .. they should have been riding more UCI races (perhaps smaller races) to score points, qualifying criteria was set long ago. Superlax??? Really? Race more UCI races?? Do you have any idea the races that were done in order to go to Rio? They raced all the specific races that were "UCI" as you say. They raced plenty. They couldn't of actually done any more.

It's not just up to 2 riders to score the necessary points.. the more riders you have racing the more points you could score. End of the day.. the youngster are not being managed well (i don't think) they don't receive much guidance from our governing body either. . Until our governing body decide "let's help ensure we qualify for the Olympics" not much will change. There is a huge Sadly this is the state of affairs. Edited May 24, 2016 by Gen
Shebeen Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 I suppose we can also look at Candice Neethling - she went to London 2012 probably with a way lower UCI ranking, was that not for future development? Now she's not even mentioned in the Rio picture. In broad terms of Olympics, I think it's an arms race that sees very little point to countries like ours. We should not be measuring ourselves on medals. That is just unattainable as we only really get the few freak performances that have f@#$ all to do with SASCOC's help. All countries outside of the top 10 should really be measured on finals made (or medals per GDP/capita etc etc). raptor-22 1
Shebeen Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 The women didn't meet the Olympic qualifying criteria to go to RIO. According to Nation rankings we can't send a female to RIO.sort of related, but in looking up the rankings I see mr Croesoer is still on the list. wonder if those points are counting for us?

Cube120 Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 I think the real story here is not who wasn't selected to go .Having watched the ELITE mens race on Sunday not one of our riders have the ability to compete at an international level due to not being exposed to that competition on a regular basis.JR completed 5 laps before he was pulled out....that's embarrassing for us who have believed that he was "so good" here.Against the best in the world we just do not have the ability people.Lets accept that and rather focus locally,or better still, lets groom the youngsters from school level to ensure we have decent strength coming up through the age groups.Internationally the rest are on another level and we are nowhere close to that unfortunately.

(So technically only 63 finished) XCO is actually a very unforgiving discipline. . If you are starting with number 80 on your bike you can forget about finishing with all the traffic etc you'll be lapped in no time and pulled off course Edited May 24, 2016 by Gen nonky 1
rock Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 world cups used to have qualification races the day before, usually only a couple laps, so you had a limited number of starters on actual race day. and that was when courses were longer, now they are shorter, more technical and more people on the start line. bad combo.
