Apologies if it’s been asked before, but where in Cape Town would be the best shop to try out Triathlon bikes.

I’ve never been part of a club, thus don’t have opportunity to test other’s bikes.

Looking for compact TT frame bikes as I’ve got long legs .... not In proportion to upper body ito std bike sizing

Only because I came across this place on instagram the other day. I've never been there nor know much about it but looks decent from the pics.

Didn’t want to start a whole new thread.

Training has been going well, and seeing improvements in my fitness.

I am stuck in a conundrum on which bike to leave on the indoor trainer.

My road bike or my Scott hard tail MTB.

Is there any difference on the trainer between bikes? With no triathlons in my immediate future, I am spending most of my indoor sessions simply surviving, I don’t get into aero positions, things I am sure I will do closer to a comp.

conundrum comes in on which bike I use most on weekends, the road bike hasn’t even seen the road lol I use the mountain bike most sundays on trials as my “long” ride on the weekends, but I know I need to get the road bike out and gain experience. Which at this stage will be riding on my own wherever I can find a suitable spot, being in Fourways it am not far from cradle. I only have a few friends who partake in MTB and willing to put up with my slow ass.

Taking the bike off and on the trainer all the time is a ball ache, otherwise will go find a cheap road bike and slap it on permanently.

The only difference on the trainer between bikes will be the gearing, if you are free riding or racing on the likes of Zwift/Rouvy.  If you are going ERG workouts then it does not matter which bike you leave on there.

If you want a dedicated bike, I personally prefer a cheap road bike as the gearing will be closer to what you will use when racing triathlons as well as position on the bike (as EddieV says) and components are generally cheaper than MTB

Appreciated ....i am hunting now for a cheap road bike in my size In classifieds (Gauteng), otherwise i see a cheap scott road bike new for under 10k, if i can convince my lady to ride (like baptizing a cat) , it will fit her as well, we both 180cm in height.

It'll be nice for you to have a road bike you can chop up too. Play with the seat position as you head more into the typical tri position, play with bar extensions one day.

And then still have the option to go for ride outside on a 'normal' bike.

I built an old bike up for the trainer using old parts. Doesn't even have a back wheel.

Got 53/39 cranks and an 11-28 cassette. Works perfectly for everything trainer related and cost almost nothing.

If you are interested in building a trainer tri bike, I have some old 2x10 shimano bar end shifters and some vision Metron 2x10 bar end levers in the bike box somewhere.

I will happily part with them

I think I also have an old base bar/stem combo with brake levers.

I even have an old pinarello frame and fork in the basement! I think its a 54. You can have it all cheap as chips!

Agreed on that Ordu's looks, and putting weight as low as possible can only help the handling.

I also actually really like the paint on that specific one, must be honest I'm just not a black bike kinda guy, and finding a black bike in a sea of black bikes when you're stumbling around after overcooking the swim can't be fun, shouldn't be many bikes in that colour in transition.

Any news on the 2021 Ironman African Champs and if there will be entries available?

I received a letter confirming my entry a couple of weeks ago, but I was entered for this year and it was carried over. The impression I got from the letter is that they are not going to open entries, but rather stick to the one's entered already. I think it might be a combination of people transferring entries from all over and COVID restrictions that are still in place, so it might change closer to the time.

An event currently on the go - Uberman.

How's this... 21 mile ocean swim, 400 mile cycle, 135 mile run on the infamous Badwater route. Entirely self supported. I think 6 people have completed it solo.

James Lawrence (the iron cowboy) is doing the cycle leg in a team this year.

Sun City Ultra - no more...

I am gutted. Just about to start tapering for my first triathlon and boom there it goes. Hard work, dedication and family time taken up for training to have it taken away.

Second one this year - First 70.3 Durban and now this.

Our entries are carried over to next year but next year is May and Durban is in June. Not great.

Damn you Sun City
