nonky Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 Formulas C1's on my previous bike were OK when new but quickly deteriorated to the point where the rear needed to be replaced completely. New bike has Shimano Deore F & R with 200/180mm rotors and they are GREAT (6 months' usage).
blondeonabike Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 I love my avids. They scream like a pig getting slaughtered. I don't need to yell track at anyone, I just sprint up behind people and pull the brakes hard.
Spoke101 Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 Formula R1 Racing because they about as light as you get.
GerrieTruter Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 Shimano XT M775 on my bike. Bike came with it and I've been more than happy with them. 160mm rotors front and rear. If they stop working for what ever reason I'll probably get SLX brakes.
RockCoach Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 Hope Tech2 E4's on my trail bike. 203/183mm Hope Floating rotors.Hope Tech3 X2's on my hardtail Ragley. 203/183mm Hope Floating rotors.Hope Tech3 X2's on my wife's trail bike. 183/160mm Hope Floating rotors. Hope on whatever my next MTB is.

Headshot Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 Slight divert - my wifes R1 brakes are super light but not super in the stopping department. Recently the stopping power decreased both back and front for no apparent reason. Pads were still good and no sinking feeling at teh levers.. After sanding down the fronts and putting them in the back with brand new non OE ones up front the brake force is a bit better. Any R1 users out there - what are the best pads to use and where can I get them?
Tothehills Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 Shimano, what else!XTR for 8 years now (two different models). No problem. Have tested many pads with mixed results.Bleed brakes once a year. Only if the "other" brake manufactures start making deep sea fishing equipment, would I consider something else
Heel Drop Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 Very fortunate to be running SRAM Guides on my VIPA!and are they osim?
RocknRolla Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 Shimano Deore M615. (the xt's of a couple of years ago) Has served me very well thus far, even while running thm on Avid rotors.. shock shock horror.
cdevil Posted May 24, 2016 Author Posted May 24, 2016 Shimano Deore M615. (the xt's of a couple of years ago) Has served me very well thus far, even while running thm on Avid rotors.. shock shock horror. Also running Deore M615s but upgrading to XT M8000 soon. As far as the rotors go, rotors are rotors, makes no difference whether you're using Avid or Shimano rotors...
cdevil Posted May 24, 2016 Author Posted May 24, 2016 What would your reason for "upgrading" be? I currently have a Deore/SLX 2x10 groupset on my bike, thinking of replacing the entire groupset (incl brakes) with XT M8000 1x11. The XT brakes have better modulation and are a bit lighter.
Hilton. Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 Also running Deore M615s but upgrading to XT M8000 soon. As far as the rotors go, rotors are rotors, makes no difference whether you're using Avid or Shimano rotors... +2 Also on Deore M615's. 180mm front, 160 back.
koukie Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 I had Shimano XTR brakes, took them off and replaced it with Sram Guide RS, super impressed with them. Nothing wrong with the XTR but I have a 140mm rotor at the back and the guides are just way better than the xtr's on such a small rotor.
