When the first bunch past me, I stopped and admired the early morning until majority of them past me.

classic move

EDIT: just to add other classic moves

  • pull over to eat something while "enjoying the view"
  • pull over and fiddle with tyre pressure
  • If you need more time, add fiddling with gearing or saddle, etc, whatever you can fiddle with on the bike
  • last resort ... pull an #EVAN and snap a selfie or two ... but this is the utmost last resort.

I normally just stand there breathing heavy with my asthma pump in hand.

Been years since I ventured through that route but I recall there was at one time access between the two roads. Anyone done it recently?

Hi are there any mtb routes from Clovelly side to Ou Kaapse Weg to get onto Ou Wapad into Silvermine?

Thanks hubbers

Yes, there is a jeep track from the Clovelly golf course which runs next to the course and then goes to Ou Kaapse Weg. When you get to OKW, turn right and Ou Wapad is on your right within a 100m.

TOKAI UPDATE:
(by Tim)

As many of you will have noticed, Tokai has seen plenty of work of late.

Starting at the top, the Bridal Path switchbacks have been cleared of regrowth and are riding beautifully. Vasbyt has seen some major revision with the idea being to improve speed and flow on the flatter upper sections. The berms are still fresh but the rain predicted this week should help firm the ground. Give it a ride and let us have some feedback.

As far as alien clearing is concerned, teams put in by TMNP have made major progress in the slopes below the snake trails and elsewhere. The results are easy to see. The slope where the Rinkhals trail used to run is all but clear and this will enable us to move in and reopen this section in due course.

After the work is completed on Vasbyt, the old Lizard trail is next in line to be revived and tweaked to add some flow.

Work will also be completed on DH0 which has already had some basic work done laying the foundations for a fast and technical downhill start. As it stands, it just needs some fine tuning of lines and the installation of a few more features. All this is on the cards in the coming months.

Then of course there is the continuation of Vasbyt and the DH line into the “Roots” area and eventually Fairy Garden too. This is dependent on the gum tree harvesting being completed and from our inspections, it appears that this will happen quite quickly. Three main lines are still set for this area and will incorporate green, blue and black graded trails.

As far as the much anticipated weekday access is concerned, we have seen from press reports that TMNP have mentioned the end of the year and the arboretum to be opened some time thereafter. As its stands, the MTB and horse riding community are the only groups who have access to the area, access which would not have happened without considerable effort being put in by TMNP and TokaiMTB.

Weekend access is still on TMNP's winter opening times and linked to the closing time of the picnic area 8am - 5pm. The times will be extended to 6pm from 1 October, 2017.

Edit - if anyone has any suggestions or proposals for upgrades to the existing trails or on the work done thus far, please let us have it!

Rough plan is -

Restore and upgrade My Roots (Blue) and Your Roots (Green) and continue the DH line down through the area.

If you do use the golf course shortcut, please play nice with the golfers.

Stop and wait if you see someone about to tee off.

Give a friendly wave and greeting if circumstances allow.

I don't know whether this road is public access but it'd be a shame to lose this connector.
