Headshot Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 I rode Tokai yesterday for the first time in years. Trails are badly marked and in some spots super dangerous. If you going to charge R75, you need to up your game. Up your skills and the dangerous bits will become fun. MTB is for dare devils not woesies by the way. If you study Trailforks and look at a map you wont need signage either.
kader01 Posted November 30, 2017 Posted November 30, 2017 Tokai weekday access still on the card for the near future ayone?
T-Bob Posted November 30, 2017 Posted November 30, 2017 Tokai weekday access still on the card for the near future ayone? I heard January but there are more in the know here than me.
Jewbacca Posted November 30, 2017 Posted November 30, 2017 I heard January but there are more in the know here than me. The thing is, how will week day access work? Will we still be resigned to the seven till seven in summer and eight till six in winter, or will it be a more user friendly system like it was before? Having it open Mon-Fri when we are all meant to be at work really sucks. Sunrise is at five.... Being able to smash a quick 2 hours 5-7 before work and then again 17:30 to 19:00 afterwards in the natural light would be radical. Add the odd in at 18:00 and down under headlight/night ride and you have the 'old' Tokai getting a bucket load of use and stopping me from ever having to ride anywhere ever again..... I'm not trying to be a 'back in my day' yawn fest, but I really do miss being able to smash out seven or eight epic little trail flicks a week. I appreciate the safety aspect of the marshalls and all the effort going into the revised trails. It is super awesome. But I do miss the freedom to bash about before the hungover guys wake up...

Eddy Gordo Posted November 30, 2017 Posted November 30, 2017 Yeah, that access times is a real thorn in my side!!
Simon123 Posted November 30, 2017 Posted November 30, 2017 Live 5min from Tokai. Check.Have totally flexible schedule at least 3 times per week. Check. Times dont bother me as not an early riser. So lets get 'em open so that I can smash a few lunchtime rides.

Up 'n at 'em early is a chicken dinner, especially if you have kids to feed and ship off to school and work to get to. 7 to 7 is probably about as useful as the current situation for most

Jewbacca Posted November 30, 2017 Posted November 30, 2017 I'll take a stab at that question..hahahahaha edge of my seat here Deon! Luckily I didn't hold my breath. Also, please don't think I'm being a negative Nancy. I WILL make a point of riding Tokai in the week regardless of access times as often as I can. I am more eschewing 'ideal world' scenario's...

We have had some really good meetings in the last few weeks covering a range of topics like; events, trail plans, safety and security, agreements, times and timeframes - all basically leading to a closer working relationship. There are still issues to sort out but we've all found a way of looking passed emotion to find the best solution. Times and timeframes have come up in several discussions but with so many processes running simultaneously, it's become a sort-of checklist approach to all the remaining issues. We have an update coming soon, hopefully tomorrow, but here's some points relating to your question worth mentioning right now.. Got to love bullet points:Site inspections being done this week at TokaiMTB's request to assess felling progress (SANParks have been really accommodating.)Meeting next week to discuss results of inspection and affect it might have on 7/7 access dates - fingers crossed.Same meeting, discuss access structures (infrastructure) - SANParks are quite firm about keeping the gates and on some of the points TokaiMTB agrees they should remain, especially when it comes down to your safety. We have respectfully challenged the current/planned hours and as a result, together with SANParks' input, we will explore a few options and possibilities. So far TokaiMTB has 3 options to exhaustively explore before having to look to electronic access as part of a membership type deal. So essentially, 3 options and 1 fallback incase nothing else works. My brain is a bit tired now, spellcheck has all but taken over so I think I'll leave it there.Look out for the update!

Thing is I have to be so careful with wording. Ambiguity is the enemy. I just hope I have at the very least shown you everyone's commitment to that once 'ideal world' scenario.. I think we stand a good chance. The plans are sound, just need the right backing.
SuperDooperSnooper Posted November 30, 2017 Posted November 30, 2017 I am sure I speak for loads of others in saying THANK YOU VERY MUCH to TokaiMTB for the relentless efforts in bringing the Tokai Trails back online.Especially with the end of year holidays looming, the prospect of a quick midweek spin through Tokai is mightily inviting. Holding all lucky fingers crossed...
