That was 20km into the race I think.

This was at CP5 300km later..... no laughing! :D

Managed a smile as we crossed the line though.

Best bit of the race was right at the very end. With 300m to go, just before the palates started I fell over in the thick sand, and I had a sense of humour failure, out of pure frustration and being moedeloos I just screamed, "jou ma se poooooos" at the top of my voice, not noticing the 70 year old Oom right next to me. He leans over and says to me in the softest voice, "moenie worry nie seun, jys amper daar"as if nothing happened, shame bless his soul.

From the first to the second pic, it seems you grew a beard! Now THAT is hardcore! :)

BTW, what was the average time spent at checkpoints by you solo okes?

2 hours total for me, but I was really mucking about talking nonsense to the awesome support okes.

The one guy who took it more seriously, ended up I would think about 5 mins at each

5 minutes? Nooit!

I'm torn between a 2 man or solo. I have enough time to train for a solo, but I'm already gatvol of my bike just by training for a 4 man

I'm no expert, but if I was going to "race race" this bad boy next year, it's the stops where position will be made up.

Making 5km on a dude is hard work and it far outweighs just getting you butt up and going 5mins sooner. 2m30 extra spent at the stops is 1km lost. If you stop 1 hour less in total, that's 1 hour less in the sun and head wind the next morning. At this pace, you should recover on the bike I would think.

Hmmmm, talking dirty like this has me in the mood for next year again ????

One of my friends, Dana Schutte (6th) says that they stop for 5min max at each of the stops. Looser stops for less than that! If I had stuck to my plans, I would have come in at 19:40, I lost 23 minutes. My total stop time was 1H23min, excluding the stops at fhe waterpoints.
