BUMP

“Overall, drivers identified the largest number of cyclists wearing the vest plus the ankle and knee reflectors (90% correctly recognised), followed by the reflective vest alone (50%), the fluorescent clothing (15%), and lastly black clothing (2%).”2

Black is not a colour.  It absorbs all the light and reflects nothing plus it is hotter than the lighter colours.

Rather be seen out there.

Thanks for the Bump Dale, certainly keeps me aware out there.

I really wanted the black one cause it's so sexy, but went with the orange instead as there is nothing sexy about being hit by a car!

I always insure that my rear light is blinking bright, day and night and if that light should fail I have a back-up fully charged.

Of course now I live in a country that has bike lanes as far as the eye can see, but I remain vigilant!

new feedback, the flare is nice and visible from far, but as you come closer, it "loses" intensity.

So I want to change my conclusion, and ad another rear light to my shopping list. I am adding the cateye day light, which as I previously stated is more a glow than a beam.

That way you are covered, cars see you from far, and as they come closer the other light will take over the high visibility function.

Good thinking.  Can never have enough lights.

Great thread 'Dale and visibility is crucial for the cyclists out there.

I am guilty of wearing a black jacket when riding some intervals in the late evening. If the opportunity arises to get another jacket, I'll make sure it is a vibrant colour and also have reflective strips.

Fortunately, my front and rear light I believe is very good quality. My rear light has a nice random flickering mode which would draw the attention of the motorist that I am also on the road.

My trusty Specialized shoes also have reflective strips at the back of both shoes.

Be seen, be safe!
