...where it will just cut out while driving. Sometimes it chuggs a little before cutting out and other times it just dies.

I had similar symptoms with a Mazda Rustler bakkie. Would be fine for days and then suddenly a cough or three and then dead. No pattern. Just random events. I would pull off to the side, open the bonnet and start knocking and pulling on stuff. I changed fuel filter, coil, stripped and cleaned the carb and then somebody said to get the distributor checked. I thought BS but in the end I took it to a distributor specialist and he put it on his test bench and sure enough, it was a faulty module for the electronic ignition. Did a service exchange on the dizzy and never had an issue after that.

Air leak in the line somewhere - replace all the rubber pipes and clips from the tank to the carb.

Before you have a leak and do a Tumbles on us.

Edit - I forgot - might be a small leak in the fuel pump too - but I would start with an inspection of the full line - a sucking leak is hard to find but you might see/smell damp petrol somewhere.

Thats quite a job but will have to check the fuel line and see if i can see anything.

Its so pooh as it happens intermittently and taken it to an electrician and they found nothing.

Get you tires aligned and balanced and ask the tech if you can inspect underneath while it's on the lift.....

Otherwise come and help me tidy my garage for long enough and my lift will appear out the bottom.... then you can do it there... I think it is still underneath the pile somewhere.... :)

Ja, I hope you have better luck with your Hyundai diesel. I have a Getz 1.5 CRDi in my backyard which needs an engine rebuild. Head is cracked, camshaft damaged, and centre cylinder sleeve scored badly. Best quote from Korean Boys was R35k for a rebuilt engine. Car is only worth R42k. Body is excellent shape. So sad.

@Moridin...did you look at these guys selling these imported engines for a similar one or are they not available yet... R35K madness

Still looking.

One other thing: when I renewed my insurance, they wanted me to pay R660 for the Getz. I told the broker that R660 for a R42K car is madness. He said that particular Getz has a loaded premium. Now, I wonder if those models are not stolen for second-hand parts.

Similar, my new i20 is R570p/m. I told him that R660p/m for a R42k car and R570p/m for a R260k car does not quite compute.

Have you tried Cape Korean Spares in Elsies?

They offer specials on engines if you trade yours in

Not yet. Though, if the insurance is going to charge me R660p/m to drive that car around, I don't know if it is even worth the effort.

Fark, that's why my rule is never to buy a 2hnd diesel, I'd rather pay the premium in fuel costs and get a good old steezy easy to repair petrol.

If you have a diesel from new and baby it then it should be pretty much hassle free, 2hnd is an unknown entity, eish taken to the cleaners.

Got a new car radio from a client.

He removed it from his Nissan.

So I fitted it to my Nissan to send my radio back to Nissan for repairs.

Bit now the radio needs a code to unlock, and the client never used the radio, bit replaced it with another system.

So hope that the dealer will be able to assist on Monday with the unlock code

Sometimes the code is in the Handbook, if the owner has the handbook look in there. Or maybe a separate car handbook but included in the official books with the car.

I had a similar issue with my Audi, I had to take the radio combo out to have some work done on the electrical harness and when it was put back it needed the code. I also went to the dealer because who reads the instruction manuals, I mean like really, no one I know, and they pointed me to the booklet in the glove box. Sure enough there it was.
