Cycle Lab Disclaimer

So I was shopping at Cycle Lab Fourways and when I left the shop I noticed a sign on the door saying that Cycle Lab 'will not be beaten on price'.

Has anyone ever held them to this statement?

If so, is there a catch? It is obvious that CRC is considerably cheaper than Cycle Lab. Could one compare Cycle Lab's prices to the likes of CRC CW Cycles etc.?

I am sure they mean beaten on price locally

Haven't tried with a foreign company, but they've beaten a local price for me without any fuss at all.

They will match pricing, less additional 5%.

Rules seems to be, for international, it's including shipping and VAT, duties.

Local, product must be in stock at competitor. They will phone and check, I've had them do it.

Works well though if you don't feel like trialling or paying local shipping prices.

Good to know. It is convenient purchasing good from Cycle Lab, and if they are prepared to match any price, that is a bonus

mmm I dont see the point, but that is just me....I will go with the shop that has the best value offering off the bat. Not interested in getting a match from the lab.

Yup. If you're using price as your USP, do it first time. Discounting the odd client who does his homework (even does your homework for you?) because you've got a massive budget smells a bit like that thing that those other okes got nailed for the other day. It probably isn't, but it smells very similar.

I buy a lot of components and most of the local pricing is competitive.  My CRC orders are becoming fewer and mainly hinge around stuff I can't get the full range of here, specials and "bulk up to get the free shipping".  If you choose your local store carefully you won't be too out of pocket.  Cycle Lab is one of the better priced shops but they are geared to being the complete solution and don't (like to?) sell all the stuff I need.

Based on my experience Cyclelab does honour the "beat any price" guarantee.

I must point out that with my last Cyclelab purchase in March the prices attached to the items were less than that reflected on the till slip, i.e. overcharge.

The amount involved here was R600 on a total bill of R3,800!!!  When I noticed this I went back to the shop and they gladly refunded me the overcharge, in cash nogal.

The shop assistant said something like "oh this happens sometimes".

I wonder how many people check that the price on the item you are buying is the same as that you are being charged for and paying. especially if you buy more than one item and when paying by credit card.

Surely it's the exact opposite of what those other okes got nailed for. They were agreeing not to compete. These guys are saying that they will compete with anyone

Found one exception to the gaurantee - although not mentioned anywhere in their T&C's. In the scenario where you have to go to Cyclelab (ie the insurance doesn't give you any choice) for an insurance claim, they will not beat any quotation provided by anyone else. Tested it this morning where Cyclelab charged waaaaay more than a quote I provided. Was told "sorry sir, the warranty doesn't apply to insurance claims"

The answer is to Get your insurer to pay you the value of the Cycle Lab quote in cash. It's more do-able than you think, though you may have to escalate the issue.

I once did it successfully a few years ago, when Cyclelab did not have the bike I wanted in stock. It just takes a nicely worded motivation - but be careful not to bash anyone.

ill bet that this practice contravenes at least one consumer protection act ruling and possibly a law also ,just tell the insurer to pay the money in cash (be nice) and then get a bit grouchy if they hesitate ..

as usual in SA businesses will farm out all sorts of crap business practices UNTIL you COMPLAIN then it disappears..

Another SA practice that's all too common is people who will happily accept T&C until it doesn't suit them, then they complain.
