Can scarcely take 1 x tube, 2 x tire levers and small multitool.

But it sits nicely tucked away under the saddle, not intrusive at all. Does not hang loose like those plastic "bloubul balle" under a Pta Hilux Double Cab.  :whistling:

But the Argus CTCT is different. Every year I get properly excited. Every time I get goosebumps in the starting chutes. Every climb up Chappies has me grinning. Every year I get a thrill from the crowd up Wynberg Hill. Every time I wait in anticipation for the cool patch at Misty Cliffs. I know the route so well, I can even tell you where the glass splinters on the left edge will be. Still it feels fantastically new every year!

Why?

Think a big part of it is that the whole city is aware of the race and embraces it.

There are no cars, bicycles rule for a few hours.

There are a LOOOTTTTTTT of Hout Bay residents who bitch and moan about the race. To be fair they bitch and moan about pretty much everything under the sun. Including people slowing down on Victoria to look at the whales when they were in the bay.

:) You have to excuse old fogeys like me, I've tried calling it the Cape Town Cycle Tour, but I keep going back to the old name. You know, its just the old-dogs-and-new-tricks thing. And I know I'm being bad, because my kids also now call it the Argus. Perhaps it is just a Capie thing, we're always living behind the times. It being such a slow place and all. Slaapstad rules!

Also a Capie now, 6 years ex Durbs. The Argus, as a newspaper, is no longer something to be proudly associated with I think.

Nope, born and bred joburger. Always has been and always will be The Argus to me. After doing 26 Argus' I can say that I may just prefer this race to any other race on our calendar. 28 for my toppie, 26 for me, 12 for my boet and 2 for my Mom. That's a fair amount for 1 family. We have also never come down for less than a week, So I would love to know how much we have spent on this race since my folks did their first in 1989.

Agreed. I stopped buying it (as well as the Cape Times) because it became so bad, I found the Hub a more credible source of information.

Meh. The name *Argus* is and almost always has been used as a stand-alone name that just happens to originate from some newspaper sponsor.

It even goes as far as some non cyclists using bastardised names, such as Augus (cringe), without a hint of irony.
