problem solvers have a chain tug that will take a derailleur- but what you do about the cables I don't know - Grant Usher had stock a couple of weeks ago - about r350 - I bought one for my cotic roadrat but that frame is cable capable

Full length hoses and zip ties.

It won't look pretty, but he won't die from uglybikeitis.

Theres no shame in putting gears on a ss for mankele.

I wish i knew what was coming before i attempted it this past week on 32x17.

Thus my query. Although I have no problem soldiering through 3 days of suffering, but my partner may not be inclined to listen to my whining, or grumpiness and swearing for 3 days.

Not worried about cable ties etc for a week-end of racing. Was just wondering about the cable stop for the dreailer.

It's an XT Derailer, no clutch I need to check what model XT, but it's a couple of years old, like I posted earlier.

No cable stop needed if you run full length cable outer.

Basically the outer runs from the shifter barrel adjuster and ends in the derailleur itself.

You most likely will have to use a cable with a full sleeve until the rear derailleur. I dont think tuning will be that easy though, and then you can just cable tie the sleeve to the frame.

this !

Perhaps my only answer it to HTFU. Slap on a 20 and a 30 for mankele and do only breedts nek hillclimb repeat rides till 3 towers time?

Got it, thanx.

Sent the missus to Crusher armed with what I need. Hopefully he can sort me out.

If you get stuck let me know - mine is still not on the frame - it can wait a week or two to go on without issues.

Available locally here

You should be able to gt gears running with a NW chainring up front, full length cable outer cabletied to the frame and one of these: http://wheelsmfg.com/derailleur-hangers/emergency-hanger.html

This one is also locally available here. Cheap as chips

Although its not recommended for long term use.

Hold on here a minute.

Do I understand correctly  that you want to put gears onto a single speed.  Does not make sense to me - gears=singlespeed?

Sorry, I don't get it.  Get another bike.

Must be missing something here.

Damn all this talk of gears and here I am building a singlespeed

The street cred isn't worth all the sweat.

The SS i sold Super T. He did the Argus on it.

One photo of his medal over the rear hub and now the bike has gears on.

Once the purist novelty wears off you will succumb to gears too.

In the meantime I have a rear sprocket you could try out.

I look forward to watching you ***.
