MTBeer Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 Grammar Nazi I am, well in this case as it is all I can add. What is all this nonsense about this and that. A HARD-TAIL solves all these issues like:Solid rear triangle,Weight,2 x water bottlesIn this case who cares where the shock mount is. Drop you tyre pressure to 1.1 to 1.5 bar and problem solved. 1.5 works for dudes like me in the 100 + kg cat. But of coarse this a whole new debate that the OP may want to weight in on. I am so old school that when people talk about a shock I immediately think of a fork as this is all I know.not many rocks where you ride?
usxorf Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 my only contribution to this fascinating debate is as follows - 99% of the people that I fly past on downhill single tracks while chasing STRAAAAVAAAA pb's wouldn't notice the difference if their fecking vertically/horizontally/diagonally mounted rear shock was attached to the fecking handle bars. #toomuschanalysisandnotenoughriding #justrideyourfuckingbikeSome of us are at work and are forced to think about riding, rather than actually riding.
MTBeer Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 Some of us are at work and are forced to think about riding, rather than actually riding.jeez i don't even think about this shite when I'm riding. As they say in the classics - "kyk noord en f0k voord"
dev null Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 Well its a santa cruz so it should be better!! No place for a bottle cage, so it's crap really. Let's not mention the fact that I hate people that can afford a SC.
RockCoach Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 Can we move this post to Post 1 in the thread? Me pouring you one http://gifrific.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/Jack-Donaghy-Pouring-Alcohol-Loop-30-Rock.gif Cheers. On all those frames you posted I can't even work out which are horizontal or vertical. I am asked this question a lot btw...

Dicky DQ Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 not many rocks where you ride?Nah all the Dutchmen are somewhere else. I cant afford a decent (irrespective of the shock placement or, or) so hard tail it is. also I only ride manicured single track (well that is what they offer these days) or small things like the Cape Epic, Trans Baviaans, Gravel and Grap, Origin of Trails, Jonkers Black routes etc. Not doing any downhill or enduro stuff so I am fine for now.

HARD tail Dick has a convincing argument...
Headshot Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 Of course its about the weight saving, and I`m looking strictly at frame-design not weird mtb-roadie requirements like 2 bottles on the frame. There might also be a cost saving in terms of a simple top tube vs a re-enforced top-tube, not that the end user will necessarily benefit from this saving. Edit: I hear what you say about your water bottles preference, but surely you can mount another bottle behind the ass?Hah, classic, thanks for the laughs...
