Bicycle Insurance

Thats a cheap one by the insurance company, lets see, have your wheels stolen of the bike, damage say R18k, sorry but you have to cough up the first R10k yourself.

I look at the premium we pay, have to pay, have to swallow and then get sick at all the small print they add to reduce what they have to pay out.

Hi,

With much respect, your statment is not exactly accurate.

You dont HAVE to do anything. Their "small" print is your policy schedule and the least you can do is make sure that you agree with the cover terms.

If you want lower excesses, then tell them, but it will mean an adjusted premium.

Insurer profitability is very closely monitored and the FSB will be all over them if they were "trying to screw" the consumers. TCF is a huge thing at the moment.

The insurance industry is one of the most mature, pricing is a super competitive. If one compnay is trying to screw clients, other insurers will just take that market....

Educate yourself on your contract with the insurer, or ask a broker.

If you dont like their terms, find another, if you dont like any of their rates, then self insure.... or dont insure. Lots of options.

I just think we pay allot for insurance generally and the small print excess we get slapped with "oder the guise, you either pay more or accept this" is eina.

One side you pay through your @ss for a 0 excess, the other side is all exclusions or rules that end with excess which increased if this happened or that happened.

a R10k excess rule, dammmit, eina.

but then, we don't have a choice so we generally bend over and pay, and pray we never have to use it, or end arguing with insurance company when we have a claim and early get anything out, after having paid a scary amount every month for 3-4-5 yrs.

to put premium into perspective.

I pay for my one bike the same amount I pay for my wives car which is insured for 3x more.

How can we not cry.

I am with one of the insurers mentioned above, was paying R220 for R50K, with a R5K excess. Now had a crash and cracked a carbon frame which has a lifetime warranty and they want to repair it and give me a 1 year warranty, then after that nothing.

I have never had to jump through so many hoops...

Hellopeter Disco. You can ask them if they are willing to guarantee your life based on the repairs from their chosen supplier (similar to what happened on the OUT claim a while back) You can probably also argue that If they are now offering you a one year guarantee, you are not in the same position as you were prior to the loss (lifetime guarantee). - the last one might be a long shot......

I have made it very clear they need to make a plan because I will not accept the risk of the repair failing while riding.

My wife had a fall at Joberg2C and the rear triangle got scratched, submitted the quote for a new triangle to Galilao Risk as Rocky Mountain will not cover the warranty   if re-sprayed 4 day latter R15000.00 deposited.

Once this fiasco is complete I will be moving and will give them a shout.

Shame, my broker is really battling with disco on this one. But a 4 hour exercise has turned into a 2 week marathon filled with hurdles.

Today I was so desperate I rode my MTB on the road :0
