Terrible Bike service

I'm trying to think of something constructive to say. Some sort of valuable contribution to this thread. And all I can think of is this recipe for koeksisters.

You will need: 4 cups cake flour, 2 cups self raising flour, ⅓ cup sugar, 2.5ml salt, 10g (1 pkt) instant yeast, 10 ml fine cardamom, 10ml fine ginger, 10ml fine cinnamon, 10ml aniseed, 1 large egg, 15ml oil, 30ml butter, 1½ cup hot water and 1½ cup) milk.

You will need oil for deep frying seperately and some desiccated coconut for sprinkling later.

For the syrup you will need: 1 cup sugar, 1 cup water, 1 cinnamon stick and 2 cardamon pods.

Mix flour with spices, sugar, yeast and salt. Melt butter in hot water and mix milk. To dry ingredients add egg, oil and milk-water mixture. Mix thoroughly to form a soft smooth dough. Leave to rise for about 1- 2 hours in a warm place. Once risen, moisten hands with oil and roll dough into a sausage shape and cut into 2cm slices. Set aside to rise again. Lightly stretch slices to form an oval shape and deep fry in medium hot oil until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel.

Making the syrup. Place all the ingredients in a large saucepan and bring to a slow boil, stirring to ensure sugar does not burn. Stir until the sugar syrup becomes slightly sticky. Boil the koeksisters in it for 1- 2 minutes and remove with a slotted spoon. Sprinkle with a little of the dessicated coconut and serve hot with some tea and a good skinne story.

Do you have a low-carb version of this?

Point of order: that's koesisters you're talking about. Koeksisters is twisted into figure of 8 shapes, have a hard shell soft inner and is as yummy as koesisters!

However I am very definitely having to write that recipe down! Gotta know my Cape Town cooking!

Oops, koesisters, koeksisters and Cape Malay Koeksisters. Always knew of the first two. Didn't know there's a third but that recipe sounds a lot like the one I know as koesisters. All I know is I like it!

Three pages of seriousness and in the blink of an eye we managed to turn this thread into something beautiful.

Songs and recipes.

I love this place.

You forgot Myles' grumpy cat meme. How could you forget the grumpy cat meme! Ai toggie! :whistling:

In all seriousness the OP should've first resolved it (or have tried to) with his lbs before posting here. It's the Bikehub after all. It was bound to get ripped apart and ragged on.

Yes indeed. All complaints on the hub tend to get torn to shreds.

I dont blame the op though for posting his experience.

It is clear that the staff have no clue how to deal with customers and normally this is the downfall of many businesses.

I am not a huge fan of koeksisters...

Maybe some shortbread...?

Perhaps someone should ask, what was the OP's mannerisms/actions during that particular event that warranted the sales dude to get his shirt that ruffled to basically tell a client to eff off...I have dealt with a few clients to whom "money is no issue" kinda attitudes - but when you ask them to pay for a service/part fitted etc they explode...The chain catcher may have been fitted on a "let's see if this will solve your problems" basis - if not then you won't be charged for it, if so then we will ask you to pay for it. I have done this in the past.

Maybe it came down to the way that scenario was communicated in the first place (this is my gut feeling here).

See, this is my problem. I'm all focused on Cervelo S5s and chain catchers, then someone mentions koeksisters and I forget I even own a bike.

Well done to the OP for coming on here and saying he has an issue with his LBS.

Not sure why he must lick the owner/shops balls to get better service and why does he have to do that first before coming on here and having a rant?

OP please tell us which Bike Shop it is, otherwise this thread is useless to us.

In my experience with bike shops, one man's meat is another man's poison. Had bad service at so called great shops and great service at so called bad shops.

In my experience in the hospitality business, customer is always treated with respect no matter what the problem and no matter what you may think of them.

In my experience in life...somethings are sometimes just not worth the hassle.

Hard to gauge what is what here as there is no response from the LBS.

Exactly. At the end of the day he is a customer and should be spoken to and dealt with in a professional manner.
