i have a bike worth about 25k but do not own my own vehicle, i drive my fiances car.. Not sure what category I fall into, But i do think my priorities are inthe correct order!! :whistling:

I actually considered selling my car so that I can live in the City and ride around on my bicycle. ANd then just uber or MyCiti when the distances become too far. You're priorities are definitely in the right order.

Let's just all agree that bicycles are awesome, it's Friday so beer is gonna be awesome in a few hours as well and cars are a waste of money and space. (That last one might be a long shot haha)

I have a Swift worth about 25-30k but do not own my own vehicle, I drive my fiances car(which is prob worth the same as my bike)..I took out a loan to buy my bike, which is now paid off... So I'm not sure what category I fall into, But i do think my priorities are inthe correct order!! :whistling:

That swift sounds like your commuter, so its like dividing by zero... :P

I try commute as much as possible, but when you have a client meeting in Paarl then another one in Hout bay, public transport becomes a little dodgy. Also, not all my clients appreciate a sweaty cyclist rocking up :P Some have showers and change rooms which is awesome.

I try keep one of our cars at work and one at home so can commute and work pays for petrol if I ever drive.

You sir, fall in the category I would call: Boss level!   When I grow up I want to be where you are.

Until your Mrs finds out your bike isn't worth 10k as you keep telling her and your new brother in law to be(Ex cyclist) from upcpountry comes to CT and says "wow that is nice, She must've cost about 30k?" And your fiance is standing right there, In that very same minute you become a little puppy again... But when you get on your bike the next morning, You realise it's worth every cent and argument you've had about it and which will come in future regarding the bike and priorities...

*TRUE STORY.

PS, i picked up the sarcasm immediately ;-)

Agreed!

More cycling + more trains transporting goods + less cars on the road would make for a much happier society in my mind.

(Wow this thread has gone properly off-topic, well done to all involved)

We digress. No I do not enter MTB races based on the presence or lack of PRO's in the field.

No Sarcasm intended TBH. I truly think that your thinking should ideally become the new normal.

No, that it is not necessary to spend 120k on a bike when you clearly have the money, but not the physical fitness to justify such an expensive purchase. I agree, it is their money and they can do with it as they please. I just clearly don't get along with people who are exessive with their spending and then brag about it, yet can't even keep up with a amateur like me. And trust me when I say, I am really slow on a bike.

Its what you term excessive... If your cars are R2.5bar, is a R150K bike excessive? I have lots of lekker trust fund friends that are lekker okes, they not doing it to brag, it just happens they like the S-works funky colour more than the black one...

Jip, I have to agree with Reinhardt89. I enjoy it too.

It is a similar satisfaction as riding next to a brand new Toyota Fortuner/Hilux in both our cars that are 10 years and 6 years old, bu they are not owned by the bank. No installments going off on payday is a special kind of fun.

We are not going past them lauging out loud and pointing at them, it is an inner satisfaction, they don't even know.

I see your type practically every other Sunday... I have an american muscle 5.7 L V8 car all paid for that I take out on the odd Sundays when I feel like.  They cruise alongside or stopped at lights rev their engines wanting to race... I smile and inwardly also have the satisfaction that they are dicks... guaranteed they will floor it and have the inner satisfaction that they smoked me... where as if I really wanted to I could smoke most cars in a 0-100km.  Yet I cruise around at 60kms/hr and not 247kms/hr, why, because am enjoying my time in my car not being a dick.  When I want to really have fun then I take it to the track :)

Then there are others who rev their engines to get my attention, then wind down their windows and give approval comments or ask for me to rev the engine else want to know more about the car.... now those guys I have time for as they appreciate the quality!

Each to their own I guess... certain things please certain people......

Hey , easy on us Spez riders ....

Like my Old Man always said  "If you not in the 1st team ( Pro team )  - at least LOOK like you should be in the 1st Team "

Ha Ha Ha ......

Was he in Marketing?

So by that measure only good drivers should buy fast cars. Only fast track day motorcyclists should buy 1000cc Superbikes.

There's a correlation between those with expensive bikes and arsehole-ness arrogance...

Very few cyclists I know are awesome and humble with their 90K plus fietse.

I regret to inform you that your summary of my type is somewhat off. Never raced from streetlights and never will. My 1.4 Renault Clio (2006) will only ever beat a VW Beetle, and only if I get the jump on him/her...  ;)

My sunday afternoons are best spent on the bicycle, either road or MTB. If I see you on your bicycle on the hill ahead of me you can be sure I will try my hardest to catch up to you and pass you, even if that means blowing my engine and going way into the red.

If that makes me a dick in someone's mind, then so be it.
