I'm looking for ideas to build a workstand (if possible wall mounted-not required) because the cheapest one available is the torq craft one form solomons at 700 bucks and for 700 bucks I think i could a proper one.

So please share any ideas or plans you have for stands you want to build / have built .

The pic below is precisely what I am looking for but its like R1400 before shipping and duties so not for now....

I made one once. Took the back wheel off and it fell over denting the bonnet of my car. Bought a ParkTool work stand the next day. It's been giving back for over 14 years now. One of the best "tools" I've ever purchased.

Simple workstand:

Piece of angle iron, welded on to square tube, welded onto base plate, held onto pipe using 2 U bolts.

Pipe fixed to 'umbrella stand;, or anything else.

Angle iron is padded.

Velcro straps hold the top tube (or any other) down.

Not quite a Park Tool stand, but it works bloody well.

That's decent! Looks bloody strong

Also wanted to build my own. Luckily bought the Solomons R700 one. Good quality and very sturdy.

In my opinion trying to build a diy stand of similar or better quality is not worthwhile.

I built this one a few years back. You can have it if you want it, is totally unused. Just arrange for somebody to

collect it.

P.S. I know that a bike should not be clamped on the top tube. But it was just for illustration purposes.

Two ropes hanging from the roof trusses.  One with a loop for the saddle and one with a hook for the stem.  Less than R100, portable, small, adjustable etc...  I have packed my Parktool stand away.

I use a hanging system.  2 x ring bolts in the roof at an 45% angle to the handle bars and saddle and 2 adjustable tie downs, one around the saddle and one around the stem.  Work a treat, is height adjustable and access to both sides of the bike and easy to remove wheels if necessary.  Cheap too. Something like the below.

:D  :D  Nearly the same setup I have at the moment!

Only 3 loops . . . one for saddle and one for each grip.

The little bit of swinging irritates me  but it get the job done.

Have been planning to build my own work stand/clamp setup many a time.

But in the end I just go for a ride instead.
