Maybe just to calm your nerves a bit, its better known as Hecticpoort .

aka Hekpoort Vrekpoort.

Seriously.  Nothing to worry about.  Not a scary climb.

The little climb up to the satellite station is worse.

And then the drags up to the finish.

Hekpoort is not the key point in this race (for me)

Good luck!

Yes, but you're not your average fatty with Mickey Mouse power ;)

Hekpoort can make the rest of the race dreadful if you push up it too hard.

A while ago I took a mate round the Sat Classic route as a training ride. He rode Hekpoort well, albeit at his own conservative pace, and as we rode down the other side before turning onto the Sat rd itself, I suggested the worst was behind him. Thereafter I waited for him at the top of that 'little climb up to the satellite station'; suffice to say when he arrived, I learned some new colourful language that day!

From previous experience what is the best route to get to the race?

Also with regards to leaving where would people suggest is best to park so we don't have to exit where people are still finishing?

Depends where you coming from..

From the north/fourways area - just bang down Malibongwe until it T-Junctions at Broederstroom, turn left and then next left and you will see the venue on your right.

Last time I did it I got there fairly early, parking was easy. Smashed a beer afterwards and then left. No problems..

I did the 80km route on Saturday just to refresh the memory.

That little hill at the satellite station should not be under estimated. Then that drag at the very end- it's longer than what it looks.

And don't forget the headwind when you turn left after Hekpoort- I haven't rode this route without a decent headwind on the way back.
