Quite frankly bicycle lanes in SA at the moment would not swing my vote in anyway.  Simply because should they implement them I am not so sure how practical it would be to use with cars and broken bottles on them.

I think though that both DA and EFF lose sight of how a bicycle can assist a person in their ability to be active in the economy, travel to work or school and back etc.

Part of the drive was to upgrade the facilities for people in Alexandra to travel in to work in Sandton and surrounds more easily by bicycle and on foot. The Qhubeka project is active in Alex and complements the initiatives. Would be a pity if the bike lanes are not implemented, they would be a huge assistance (in my opinion) for these commuters.

...he said today that when every road in the city is tarred, then bicycle lanes would be considered again.

Stretch's fun fact for the day...Many cities in the US are untarring low traffic roads to reduce maintenance costs

I was reading a story about this last week, a couple somewhere went out to work, when they got home the road had been ripped up! They were pretty miff about it!

*** man. Taxi's are not the only culprit. Most motorists do not give two ****s about the rights of people on bicycles. Let's not pretend that taxi drivers are the issue here. The problem is entrenched within the mindset all road users.

Ironically, the EFF said bicycles - along with donkey carts - would be among the modes of transport used to spread its revolutionary message...

The most dangerous people on SA roads are bakery delivery drivers.

Does the CITY still have untarred roads

Depends on who is saying what and when...

The ANC used the amount of tarred roads in the city to continue its "good story to tell" narrative" in the run-up to the polls.

The ANC will now focus on how many kilometres remain untarred to show how little the DA cares.
