Hout Bay Incident: Do you know this cyclist?

When they redid Cobra, within one day it was back to dust and they closed it again, and the dust just makes me slow! Atleast I can do table tops the old fashioned way... Earthbound and slowly.

Top berms were blown out after teh first 5 riders dragged their back brakes through them. Rumour has it that Raydek's screams of "DON'T LOCK YOUR BRAKES!!!!" can still be heard reverberating around the hills and valleys...

And yeah - that's how we all start. And then we go faster, and higher, and further.

But I thought "roosting" was cool?

roosting is not locking your back brakes and skidding through a berm....

Roosting is having such speed that your back wheel slides then all of a sudden grips, whilst you're leaning over trying to rail a berm as fast as you possibly can.

I had my first roosting event on the way down the front of Hoogekraal back to the carpark. But it wasn't very roosty 'cos it's hardpack over there.

But the guys are saying that its a two lane tar road down there now?

What is the difference between roosting and roostering aka cocking about?

Cobra is the most technical trail on Hoogekraal. It was recently made less technical after removing a section of almost shale-like loose rock on a chicaned section, where you'd come out of a short punchy climb (having to shift up your entire drivetrain in the space of a nanosecond) and then get up onto a rock face, and point your bike down into the loose rock in what you'd hope was the right direction so that you get out of the chicane without stalling or falling off.

It was a really lekker section fo the trail, and I can assume that it taxed pretty much everyone who rode it as it was so unpredictable.

All the rocks have been removed, apart from the initial rock face which was obviously too big to move. It's now possible to take it at about twice the speed that you were able to do it before.

The rest of it - no, not a freeway. But not anything above green.

the face of Hoogekraal (the part with the widowmaker and below) has always been very fast and very flowy. Upper reaches slightly looser, but as you get below the gap jump it firms out as it changes to a clay base rather than the rocky stuff that turns to dust further up the slope.

Suppose that you could call a single lane freeway. But OMFS is it fun at speed.

In my case, roosting is a result of me trying everything I can to stay on my bike when I go as fast as my limited skillset will let me go into a berm, without using my brakes to lock up the back.

Roostering is loosely categorized as an after hours event....

we rode past moments after this occurred,  my observation of the scene without knowing the facts.

the lady was visibly shaken up and being helped by bystanders.

the cyclist was still shouting and cursing.

often bystanders/witness assist the victim not the transgressor... often helps to assess the situation.

this entire ridiculous thread is yet more proof that no one who values his/her sanity should ever read facebook or pay attention to anyone who does

I think michael douglas would say that this lady needed pepper spray

So getting back to the original post.

As a cyclist and a resident of HB and someone who regularly rides on Enpire Road. What is the actual story here?

Why would a roadie carry pepper spray with him?

What led up to the event?

Why was no charge laid?

Is this simply a case of FB gone nuts?

Woah... that was weird. IU let the Hoogies Rant Thread and come into the Hout Bay pitchfork Thread and...  I thought it was the Hoogies thread. Jeez guys, don't confuse a guy with a hangover, No coffee and no hope of riding today. It's a Monday.
