In all honesty, I’m fascinated there aren’t more accidents but not on the bikes, in the team cars. Have you seen how those okes duck and dive?

That's where the ex-cyclists are... they actually have a clue

Too many potentially unskilled motos in and around the group IMO. the service vehicles should be at the back or with the break - not allowed to move forward (also team cars - at the back only)

Riders in trouble would need to drop back to behind the peloton if wanting a team vehicle and break riders needs to use neutral service or fall back to behind with team car. Same rule for all.

And these 15 bottles a day needs some stricter controls also. too many sticky bottles at this Giro...

I don't get what these bikes are doing whizzing up and down past the peloton all the time. I get that it is probably boring just sitting there all the time but stricter control is needed. The bikes used also seems illogical as some are almost as big as the cars. And no stopping unless completely off the racing surface.

Rant off.... I am sorry but it just seems they need another 100yrs to learn.

Well done, another non Froome related topic turned into a Froome one....

No. A specific question to Bob Marley to get his opinion on a specific rider in an attempt to gauge what he would see as not boring.

It was you who childishly accused me of trying to make it a Froome thread and then not childishly put rather pathetically suggested I would blame PPA for Sky crashing into a police moto.

I wonder whether Team Sky's Gee or Landa will continue or chill out and prepare for Vuelta or something.

Landa came in just before cut-off.

The Basque rider will probably exit until another GT.

Gee Dawg may stick it out if he's not hurting too much and go for stage wins

Speculation ????

Not sure what Sky will do. Probably use as training with some stages as you say. Pretty much just be around to show up for sponsors.

Hope someone can rise to the challenge now and we wont be bored by the remaining stages.

Interesting race ahead. Pity that Yates & Thomas are out of it. I'm hoping that Pinot can give it a proper go and don't count Nibali out yet.

PS: These guys can count themselves lucky that Piti isn't here

With Nairo Quintana in pink the race is far from over. Tommy D and Thibault Pinot close, Bauke Molema and Nibali are outsiders. With 4 guys needing to go long I think we are in for 11 stages where MoviStar will have to control everything that is thrown at them.

Or Nairo can attack on the next big hill and then revert to being the wheelsucker the most knowledgeable hubbers have deemed him to be.

The race has come alive on the Blockhaus.

PS: The moto accident is irrelevant in the greater scheme of things. The sheep shagger is not in the class of the 5 mentioned above. And Landa? He needs Vino, marginal gains have destroyed his plentiful talent.

Just a question for the knowledgeable folk on here, why did Movistar set the pace yesterday and not Quick Step?

They were allowed to execute their plan somehow

It was a real steady sizzle of a gradient to the main climb which favoured their protected rider.

Quintana has to get that time cushion over the TT specialists

I reckon that they would've wanted at least 40 seconds over the next best.

the bikes zooming up and down past the guys is unnecessary - there is not only camera bikes but security bikes and neutral service bidon bikes - REALLY?!?! is that necessary? I thought that's why there is domestiques? rule 5?

seriously though - fans are getting out of hand - yes but they have always been - but the amount of vehicles on the road with the race is way overkill what I can see.

Although the race has full road closure, it's actually a rolling road closure.

Many of the bikes are police that close off intersections on the route. Once the peloton and support cars have passed through the intersection the police bikes have to "roll" to the front. Dan Lloyd explained it quite well that they have to secure a "moving stadium", which isn't easy. But there's no excuse for a bike causing a crash.

AFAIK, the press weren't allowed to move between the riders and had to stop at points on the route to tale photos. But they still had to pass the peloton and roll to the front - you'll find my comment about this is the Spring Classics thread.

Im not "knowledgable" by some standards but my view is that they wanted to set a pace that did not allow any attacks, soften up the field for the climb and make sure that they positioned NQ as well as possible for what were narrow roads on the climb.

Lets hope Tom D can keep out of the snow banks this year.

You mean Kruijswijk?

Excuse me if I don't believe that you randomly selected Froome as your baseline gauge.

If you couldn't take the PPA joke for what it was, well that's on you.

Anyway, you have my number, if you have a problem, You are welcome to call me.
