What would I gain if I tell everyone it's Piet Pompies from Pompies Cycles in Paternoster? Will I feel better about where I currently am with the purchase....no, will I feel worse if the owner phoned me tomorrow and tells me he was busy attending a funeral of a family member or whatever (life happens) and couldn't get around to contact me and offers to refund me (while I flayed him on the net chasing away loyal customers)...yip.

I like the bike, it's a decent bike. It's got problems which I'll fix....I was just maybe hoping that maybe someone will read this and remember the story next time they buy from out of town. Maybe ask better questions then I did. Not my intention to piss anyone off and I appreciate the advice as to how to set my brakes as I've never had SRAM parts. I've certainly learnt from this experience.

Sorry but you need to grow a pair... I was going to be patronising but will refrain from doing so.... your comments with regard to thinking the sky will fall in because you would ask the shop for a refund beggars belief !!

Seems same shop owner has no problem selling you an unfit to ride bike with no brakes where literally the sky may fall in on you and kill yourself if you crashed going down hill without brakes!!

You would have felt a whole lot better if you had just put the bike and it's bits back in the box and returned it requesting your money!!... and the only reason you are where you are is because of your course of action which you took... so now live with it !!!

I hope you manage to get the bike fixed so that you can ride it, good luck !!

"I, I, I" Its not just about you. Dont be so selfish ;)

The community will benefit from this.

You have already defended the shop enough to cover your moral issues about it.

Honest feedback about the shop will also make then shop itself stand up take notice that the Hub is aware of their problem bike, and hopefully step up their game.

I don't know hey.

From a dude on thehub who didn't have a thoasand posts maybe, but from a shop of reputable standing?

I have dropped more than 15k shopping on line more than once without thinking twice.

I do think DoubleJ needs to demand a refund.... or at not just lie down meekly and let the shop have their way.

Without naming the shop you haven't helped/forewarned anyone.

We all know the possible consequences of buying from "out of town" so nothing new here.........

If you don't want to name then don't, be true to yourself. If you posted just to vent a bit that is also your right. Others can choose to read the thread or not but they cannot tell you what you can and can't write about.

Absolutely, they cannot tell him what to do.

They can however answer a question he asked, which was "What would I gain if I tell everyone it's Piet Pompies from Pompies Cycles in Paternoster?"

The answer being that the community would be better informed.

I don't think that conveying a bad experience as a reminder of what you consider 'nothing new' constitutes no help at all. Satisfying morbid curiosity is not the intent here.Does it make the whole saga less 'exciting', perhaps, according to bikehub expectations that is. But to say it doesn't help is bit farcical tbh.

But naming and very likely shaming the other party without giving them a chance to speak for themselves is the basis for mob mentality.

Shot DoubleJ for posting the thread and hard lines for having to go through this experience dude!

I think your approach is cool. While the shop is prepared to work with you to solve the issues there's no need to burn them. If it ever gets to a place where that does become an issue then you have this to come back to and make the community aware of who it is.

Do you know whether the bike was sold by the shop on behalf of someone else or was it some sort of trade in they received from a previous owner who did an upgrade? Trying to work out whether the shop would have known about the state of the bike in the build up to boxing it and whether they were involved in the actual packaging to send it on? Knowing this might clear up much of the intent everyone is trying to come to terms with.

Retails for about 1500 - 1700 € here in Germany (That would make it between R22 500 - R26 500)

its when you add ZUMAS cut then it goes to 65k soon you will pay more for ZUMA then for the bike - hey he needs a new plane and we will be giving free education soon as well

Thanks Shaper I appreciate that. Fact is is that I am still negotiating with the shop (again...I really like the bike) but I don't want to put myself in a position where I called the owner out and when things turn ugly it counts against me (who knows ....with the law nowadays).

It was meant to be a cautionary tale.

Thanks Tubehunter I appreciate this man, Something they threw together looking at the Scott bar, the Deore FD, the XT cassette, the no-name seatpost, the X0 parts and then the Cube frame. Also the fact that i was told (after I received the bike) they bought the wheels second hand from another guy , who apparently told them it was just serviced
