some people buy it from sportsmans and just stick in on themselves, in which case it's merely a fashion accessory (almost like compression socks)

Tsek!

I run longer stuff in compression socks to stop my calves from moving about as much. They honestly made enough of a difference to wear them despite the usual "nice rugby socks" comments.

They also work nicely if you are developing mild shin splints.

The coloured masking tape seems to be quite popular it would seem judging by how many were wearing it at B&B  :whistling:

Haha.

I have been taped up with some coloured masking tape by my physio - she sent me home with some, with strict instructions on how, where and in which manner to apply it.

Not sure hoe effective it would be if you do DIY patterns.

I think the amount of tape spotted at B'nB is more an effect of the amount of peeps visiting the local physio after their massages.

We used them for a few hours after each stage at B&B for recovery, does it work ... well a bit like energy gels at times it would seem to me in that it appears to and won't take the chance not to use them even if it is just a 'placebo'

I honestly don't understand this 'inflammation is bad and must be stopped' approach that so many sportspeople have

In most cases, its simply the 1st step in the regeneration & repair processes

Transact works for me.

Berg and Bush this past weekend... Lower back muscular tired ache on day 1 (my core strength sucks) which of course started aching early on day 2. Slept with two pads on the night before day 3 and had no sore back on the day. Works great.

I suffer from back pain and regularly go for a shot in the back when it becomes to much.

Best advice my doctor gave is to take 2 anti-inflammatory tab's at least an hour before a ride.

Definitely seems to ease the aching during and definitely after .

The longer and harder the ride the more uncomfortable it is,but tabs seem to help for sure.

I used to suffer with back ache and do the same, Voltaren shot from time to time and anti inflammatory tabs, was referred to a good chiro (in your hood...) and have not used anything since. Combination of stretching and core strength sorted my back issues.

transact is a plaster with deep heat/perde salf

those plasters you refer to is leuko tape and works to support muscles etc during training/events. they however only work if properly applied (I usually go to my physio friend for assistance)

Transact contains flubiprofen unlike deep heat which contains menthol and methyl salcylate (which only serves to bring blood to the affected area and has no anti-inflammatory properties what so ever)

I hear that anti-inflams do a serious number on your kidneys, Im always very cautious about using them because of that.

Only if you abuse them i.e exceed the daily dose and continue to use even after inflammation has subsided.  NSAID abuse is also bad news for the stomach lining.

I expect Doc V12 will be along shortly.

NSAIDs can be very dangerous if used during endurance exercise.

I do believe he said that a while ago. The surgeon who installed my fake hip concurred.

Actually inflammation is actually the beginning of the healing process and is critical to healing injuries and recovering from normal training.  Some argue that anti-inflammatories actually slow the healing process but they certainly do offer symptomatic relief.

cataflam works great, but chows your stomach.  Even if I take it after a big meal, I will still end up with a sore stomach for a day or 2.

Try Arcoxia instead. Much easier on the stomach for longer term use. Schedule 3, so chat to your doc first ;)

Yes, but there are often much better treatment for those symptoms. The side effects probably outweights the benefits in most cases, we just don't realise it

It's not always the first step to regeneration, sometimes it's a response to an injury in surrounding tissue (a disc, for example). If it's a recurring injury the surrounding muscles are primed for an inflammatory response, and they often overreact. In these cases it's important to limit the response to allow healing to begin.
