I'm new at watching the TDF, my second season and enjoying more and more...

I did not know about the "ethics of attacking when Yellow Jersey has a mechanical" rule...WHAT?

I thought it was a great move by Aru  until the contaminators expressed their disappointment. If Aru had a mechanical, would the rest wait for him?

Sorry, but just an ignorant outside view...

Theres a unwritten rule about attacking the Maillot Jaune when the rider has a mechanical or a crash.

Contador dit it to Andy Schleck a few years back to.

He has been a couple % short for some time now and won't win big races anymore without a surprise move with lots of cards falling right.

But I don't think yesterday was a true reflection of his form..The man crashed hard early on and then again at a critical time..so I think he was mentally and physically not all there. We might still see him have some good days this year.

He is still paying his dues from his naughty days.

The year Bert crashed out. (The year when a Froome also crashed out) I think was his last year that he could've won the TDF..

Contador is 34, won the tour at the age of 24, but really looks like glory is long behind.

Froome is 32 and still going strong.

Valverde is 37 and getting 'better' with age.

Suppose it's just like wine, you never know how something will improve with age.

Good post and also remember at 24 Chris wasn't winning Grand Tours or even riding much outside of SA. Chris has been going well since 2012/13 so 4 years is not 13.

Valverde basically breaks any type of average when it comes to a Pro.

Who is in the best sustained form to take the maillot vert?

Michael Bling maybe

He is the only one able to get himself over the bumpy stuff..Kittel won't go in any break away chasing points..and he and the lumpy things really don't get on well.

Surely that should get him DQ'd

Rules... apparently 'I didn't see Aru' was the explanation kinda echoing Aru's 'I didn't see Froome' when he attacked explanation. ;)

ALSO added Kittel is saving as much energy on the tough mountain stages as possibke.. so Bling's efforts may catch up. ..and the flat stages have a lot of points on the line. Whichever way the green jersey goes, they will see how hard it is winning that thing.

THAT!!! is my reason for Bertie not being one of my favourites. I thought he was way out of line that year to attack when ASchleck had that mechanical. And it cost AS big.

If you read what both Aru and Froome had to say about it, then no.

They both said it was because of the fans.

They were both just being politically ... excusable. Looking at that video inset of the incident, I didn't see the fan. But that is the same as Aru saying "I didn't see the arm".
