Bonus Posted June 28, 2017 Author Posted June 28, 2017 When is team presentation, Friday? Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk Read somewhere it's tomorrow. Back in 2006 my son and I drove from the UK to Strasbourg to watch the start Team Presentation and first few stages of the Tour. We got there Friday lunchtime and found we were almost 24hrs too late for the presentation, plus on the drive there I got constant updates from my friends back in the UK telling me how many riders were being disqualified from starting as the day wore on. Not my favourite Tour trip, I have to say . . . .

Pure Savage Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 Winnings for TDF: When Andy Murray won the men's singles at Wimbledon last summer, he pocketed £2 million for just 15 hours and 52 minutes play, or around £125,000 an hour. By contrast, the winner at this year's Tour will earn €500,000, or around £438,755, for cycling 3,540 kilometres (2,200 miles) over a gruelling three-week period. Yikes. kosmonooit Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 Surprised not to see Elia Viviani and Manxman Pete in the Sky line up Guess its all about Mr Vroome .... but Elia didn't go to the Giro and often features in the front sprint wise, and Pete did well at the Dauphine, taking a mountain stage. Must he lank k@k to be left out / not get the call up, but I guess one can always check your payslip/ bank account if you are feeling neglected. Dowset was also left out of the Movistar team, even though there are TT's which might suit him, guess he is going to have to try prove himself as a domestique although the team is essentially Spanish, might be a cultural thing.
kosmonooit Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 Lets keep the big money out of cycling imo, it has a negative effect on people and the sport (F1 for example). Never been into Footies or Tennis so can't comment in that regard, but those numbers are rather obscene.
Pure Savage Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 Burt does Andy Murray get a salary from an employer (Team)? And does he have a bunch of okes to play the easy matches for him? Apples and bananas.....Yeah he gets a salary from his sponsors, the same as Chris Froome gets one from his sponsor, Sky etc. He does not have a bunch of okes to play the easy matches they are always guaranteed to be easy due to the seeding. There are zero stages of the tour that are easy, just ask Nairo when Froome disappeared down hill in the first week. Apples and apples.

s14phoenix Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 Wow those are shocking considering the level one needs to be at to be able to contend for the win. That's why these guys try do as many adverts and endorsements as possible. Which they are also limited to depending on team sponsors. And not to be funny but I don't see the cycling specific brands being anywhere near as rich as the football or other sports big brands. There is also another spin off on this... The prices we pay for stuff in the shops. For the cycling brands to survive they need to up their margins to make enough from sales to be able to sponsor pros to sell more items - its a big circle... where we as consumers pull the shortest straw... 2c in die emmer.

J Wakefield Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 You cant compare the 2 sports on how finances are contributed and how the governing bodies run things. there a lot of variables that come in when working on costs.
