Daniele from Sunningdale advertised pedals for sale in the classifieds here .

After fruitlessly trying to contact him , I thought it was a her , I received an sms from his phone last night saying " Hi so sorry Daniele is in ICU he was hit by a car riding home on Tuesday night " .

Anyone has any knowledge ?

Sorry should have post something about this.

Daniele,a true gentleman, from table view was knocked over a few days ago and is in a medical induced coma at Milnerton mediclinic. Our collective hopes and prayers from the cycling community are with him and his wife at the moment.Daniele is a soft spoken Italian who is currently store manager at Giant in durbanville. He was cycling home from work, down the hill just before DeNoon, when a car pulled in front of him, making a right turn, causing Daniele to go thru the windscreen.

Keep him in your thoughts please.

Just had one of my mates over for a kids party and he is in Dan's riding group. He showed me some of the pics of the Corsa that hit him. Was truly ugly, front window all caved in and the pic of him in ICU are sobering to say the least. Needless to say they aren't going up here. The list of injuries is long, apparently.

Thought and prayers with him and his loved ones. Seems like this has been the straw that's broken a few camels back with a lot of people I know saying they are walking away from the road scene.

We cannot compete with stainless steel and the only way to up our chances of staying out of this kind of trouble is to think on behalf of the motorists driving around us and to think again . a Motorist is comfy and safe in his car and just do not care in many instances . the proof is the poor driving , falsified licences , over full scrap yards and the booming panelbeating industry in SA . Cases get thrown out of court due to poor policing and the cyclist sits with the mess afterwards . I speak from experience , I was run over and two years later still recovering , the case just thrown out of court and no repercussion for the driver ! THINK ON BEHALF OF THE MOTORISTS , buy another red flashing rear light , wear a fluorescent / reflective outfit ! It is too late for Daniele now and he is going to take the long road to recovery . Time off work , loss of income , discomfort , self doubt  and a burden on his family . THINK AND THINK AGAIN ON BEHALF OF THE MOTORISTS , we have to co-exist and respect each other . Best wishes to Daniele and his family and be safe out there !

Really sad! Thoughts and prayers with Daniele and his family.

I'm new to cycling (few months) and for some reason chose road over MTB. I've really been enjoying it but I've had few close calls. Last weekend I was hit twice within the span of 5 minutes (Incident 1: SUV cut me off and braked right in front me bumping me into a parked car. Incident 2: Just down the road lady decides she's getting out of the car at a pedestrian crossing, I go straight into her door) No serious injuries but it makes one hesitant.

People just don't look! I'm the "nerdy" cyclist with all the lights and bright reflective clothing but I've found these things have little impact. The driving culture in this country is off. There is a sense of entitlement amongst drivers (and a few cyclists) and that is what needs to change.

Not sure not it will though

Stay safe!
