The only one I can see off course now is Cloete Murray.

There were a few others that took R48 road Cloete Murry is currently on and then back onto the course. Not sure if they missed RV1 at the dam or not.

It is also hugely varying in the same person. The experience of dealing with it and staying positive is the one thing you learn.

The other thing is to sleep early and leave gas in the tank. We always try to get 3 hours kip in the 1st 24 hours of an AR so that we have something 'banked'.

The same as blowing like a top...

I also know that I struggle in the 1st 24 hours but from hours 40 onwards my body adjusts and kicks into action mode.

Some people beast the 1st 30 hours then just wander around in circles mumbling to themselves.

Early sleep, early eating, leaving gas in the tank is a really good strategy. going at 15kph for 600km the 7kph for 40 is far more damaging than going at 12kph for 1000km

This. That's why I'm surprised to see Vaughn out so long.

What does it mean when a cyclist tracker has gone a lighter red (almost ghost like), that they have stopped, resting, sleeping.... are not moving?

I can't believe Vaughn still hasn't slept. Think he's on a 1 stop strategy?

If my google skills are anything to go by then he is a plastic surgeon. Maybe he pulled some serious graveyard shifts while still studying and his body is used to it?

I see he has also done 4 epics.

Means there tracker hasn't uploaded there position for over 30min.

Thanks - following a mate and his tracker is gone a lighter red, so was curious

looks like Vaughn had a quick splash and dash and is on his way to WP6, maybe trying to make Loxton before nightfall and catch some shut eye?

I wonder if in this heat it isn't better to sleep in the middle of the day(hopefully in a air conditioned room) and ride at night? I guess there are so many different scenarios that play out. Visibility at night is obviously always a point against night riding. The bodies natural clock that wants to sleep at night. Either way he has put in a monster ride so far.
