so im busy looking at the ups and downs of buying a new ride and currently have a 27.5.

obviously there are plenty guys riding 29er's

but is anyone on a Spaz 27.5+  ( 6 Fattie ) would appreciate your comments on the ride.

was thingking it could be best of both as they can also take 29er wheels if need arises

basically wanting something with longer legs for those Marathon type days but still wanna have fun.

My wife has the 6 fattie hardtail. Bought it for her due to increased stability and for the fun factor. It has great grip and is a blast to ride but for marathon type events I would go 29er as it will be faster and easier to ride over longer distances.

I rode the Fuse for a while and missed my 29er 100mm dually a lot. 27.5+ requires serious leg strength, and I would not want to use it for marathons. I also found my 29er dually to be more fun in twisty technical st, the Fuse was just too bulky. The ride was very comfy for a hardtail but it took like double the effort to climb. If you have money to burn then a 27.5+ will be nice as a second bike to play on the trails, but thats about it.

6 fatties are shite IMO. There's suspension in the tire but not the type you want. Lots of grip but that equates to lots of rolling resistance. I don't think you'd want to ride a marathon on one. Admittedly I've only ever ridden one.

I'd go 29er for sure. For the fun factor maybe put a dropper post on so you can still descend and have fun.

For those in the know can you ride a marathon on a Rocky Instinct? That would be my choice. Great bike for the type of riding I like to do but I'm not sure about marathon pedigree

Ask yourself : do you want to stand on the podium with Max and Nico or do want to get the highest possible fun factor out of your race while being competitive with your buddies?

If this question confuses you buy the 29er.

Honestly you can't go wrong with either.....

so just asking ...why serious leg strength ??

Rolling resistance ?? all the reviews i have read say that in the rougher stuff it actually rolls better than a 29er ??

im just asking these questions as i havent ridden either of these sizes

its hard working pedaling the fatties up long hills. Great on short, sharp hills where grip is required, but the extra weight and resistance works against you on climbs

They would - simple physics - there's less wheel deflection which results in less reduction in speed.

However - the tyres ARE heavier, if you want the same level of puncture protection than normal niner tyres. That means that your rotational weight is higher, which makes acceleration slightly slower and the gyroscopic effect is increased so the wheel doesn't want to change direction as easily as a niner would.

Small differences, though.

There is TONS more grip, on the flipside. If you rail berms hard, you may have more chance of rolling the tyres on the rims due to the lower pressure and the (for now) weaker sidewalls

I wouldn't say you need serious leg strength at all. It'll just be a bit heavier - like pedalling with a more aggressive tyre on the rear.

Yeah, on long grinding jeep track climbs or smooth singletrack climbs, I'd agree with you.

Short punchy technical climbs - the extra grip and rollover capabilities (again, moulding to the terrain rather than deflecting off it) win out.
