Gatorskins are really good.  My next pair of wheels will however be GP400S2`s.

Pressure - 9 bar is too high.  I weigh 75kg and run 7.5 back and 7 front.

Haven't they now proved that a 28c tire at 6-7 bar is faster/less rolling resistant and more comfortable?

We all have our cycling fetishes and obscurities.

I just find it a bit weird that these days, everyone feels the need to waft theirs around on the internet.

I get threads about topics of interest, but this mentality of posting obscure self fulfilling oneisms just gets my goat.

Well done bro. You over inflate your tires and you like it. I don't think any of us need to know that, care to know that nor want to know that. If you were asking advice cool... but your post is a bit like me starting a thread saying "I like almond and jizz gelato... if the shop tells me one more time they have chocolate I am going to puke on the floor"...

Obscure and awkward.

I'm banning myself from this site now. I obviously got out of bed on the wrong side.... I better have won that Scott Spark!

Just so you know, the pros all ride 25c at 7 bar. So that blows your theory out of the water. 21c at 9 bar sucks.

Gatorskins aren't as horrible as you make out. Sure they do feel heavy, but they are. Because they are so robust. I once had a nail stick through the tire and out the other side of the tube, through the rim strip. I barely even noticed the wheel had gone flat, because those tires are so strong.

They're heavy, because they're training tires. They're not meant to win races. They're meant to be put on your heaviest set of wheels and ridden through the winter.

Anyway, don't be silly. It's been proven time and time again that pumping your tires to the point of exploding does not make you any faster. It just makes you pee blood.

I don't think I got the energy or time to pump my tyres to 9 bar. Besides on my racing wheels I have to use valve extenders and for some reason my pump gauge doesn't work when I use the extenders. It "revs" as I pump so I just presume that where it tops out at for each pump is my pressure. LOL I just feel the tyre afterwards by hand and say yeah that's ok to go race.

Personally I am a non-conformer and only ride tyres that can handle 9 bars and give good road feedback.

Cant find a shop in my town that sells the brand I prefer, so generally buy them online.

What rims are you riding with that can handle 9bar and 97kg?

I have been using Conti Gatorskin for training for over 15 years and only ever had 3 punctures.

Sidewalls on the Ultremo is softer than that of the Gatorskins.

Try riding the Conti GP4000 as a comparison to the Ultremo

What the man said. This is an obscure thread - mental masturbation.

But with almond and Jizz gelato in the frame maybe that is just too much to process....

Slightly off-topic, but a question.

What's the difference between training wheels/tyres and racing wheels/tyres?

Why can't you have just one set for both?

You can. The theory is, however, that your training wheels are heavier and more durable, while your racing wheels are built for speed, at the possible expense of durability/longevity.

you could but then you would be racing a hack and unlikely to win

To the OP, do not let the other cynics get you down. I think you are on the right track.

I just so happen to have a set of Ultremos on a bike and had always considered them a bit mehh. Little did I know I was running them way to soft at 6 bar.

I pumped them to 9 bar before this morning's ride and I must say, the feedback is brilliant. I could feel every imperfection in the road so I can avoid them next time. Every time I strayed out of my lane I got a kick up the @rse as I crossed the white line. I rode over a coin and could tell that it was lying heads-up.

It was such a unique experience I don't think I can treat myself again. I'll go back to 6 bar and replace with some Contis when these are shot.
