Pace on poggio was next level, no true sprinter was ever going to make it over unfortunately. If you look it was all top classics riders or explosive short effort rider who made it over.

Yeah, they stood no chance.

Anyone can give me a link to see what the schedule looks like for the classics?  Will be at home for a while so might have the oppurtunity to actually follow it a bit more.

The Cipressa took some sting out of some of them too...some where hanging on by the time they got to the Poggio.

PhilGil over Cipressa

430 watts over 8 mins

6.14 w/kg

That’ll warm me up

Admittedly, the team in blue was animating the race and sapping them sprinter legs ????

That was a fine strategy - burn the legs off the pure splinters to allow your punchy in form rider an advantage.

Anyone watch Mathieu van der Poel's win in the GP Denain?  I watched it last night

Solo breakaway for about 14kms, put everything on the line and literally crossed the line, weakly put one hand up in the air to celebrate then collapsed in exhaustion as the peleton bore down on him.  Was brilliant to watch such a talent give it his all.

Just to put it into perspective, his one breakaway buddy lost more than 15 minutes to the peloton as he was so spent for a day in the break!
