Vaughan01 Posted April 5, 2018 Share finger trouble. 1. Gen 1 meter bought in Feb 2015. Had to be replaced in july 2015 due to battery life of less than 40 hours. The replacement meter has broken its tabs in 3 years despite being very careful in the period. 2. Gen 1 version for XT MTB: working fine. 3. 3rd road powermeter Gen 2 - bought last year but just fitted and strain gauges (according to Stages help desk) is faulty. The zero offset reading is 113. So 2 out of 3 meters have been faulty (3 out of 4 if you count the replacement). Support excellent. Product very poor. Buyer beware.
AryM Posted April 5, 2018 Share I have no idea why the Power 2 Max units were not mentioned here. (If i missed it, sorry hubbers)Got mine in Late December 2015 & haven't looked back.I have not had any issues with these & replaced maybe 2/3 batteries at most.Awesome piece of equipment, accurate, strong, reliable & not badly priced at all. https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2013/01/power2max-power-meter-in-depth-review.html Here’s a quick table of the pros and cons of the Power2Max Power Meter.Pros:– ‘It just works’ factor– Accurate power measurement– Temperature Compensation in second generation units– Relatively straight forward installation– Cadence without a cadence magnet– Contains have left/right estimated power– Do not have to send back in if changing chainringsCons:– No method to turn off Auto Zero– Tiny delay in cadence readings As long as it works for you, go for it! I have been using a Power2Max S-Type for the past two years and it is bomb proof.Absolutely hassle free, which is what you want when you roll out of bed at some insane hour and need to hop on your bike. Left & right combined readings and it is accurate, tested it against a Computrainer. AryM
The Ouzo Posted April 5, 2018 Share So what would the advantage be in dropping twice the cost of my bike on a power meter ?Other than knowing how little power I actually have in my legs, even if I'm able to make heads or tales of the data extracted, how does it help me ? Nothing like Power Training ouzo! (In my humble opinion)I trained on Heart rate before my power meter. (Gains were not too bad) Chalk & Cheese with structured power training...Power Training is absolute must for Cyclists wanting to improve fitness & performance! cadenceblur

Training for maximum improvements in performance within a constrained amount of time available: nothing can beat power-based training at this point in time in my opinion. But only if you have an actual training plan and analyze and adjust as your body reacts to the training load. Andrew_Smith Posted April 5, 2018 Share Does anybody have experience with the 4iiii power meters? Read DC Rainmaker's review on it, and it looks pretty good. Also priced very good - Ultegra @ R6250. Not bad. Edited April 5, 2018 by Andrew_Smith

Not bad.No personal experience but have seen them in use without issue.Very similar to Stages functionally. The pod appears a bit larger so check for possible frame clearance issues. Not bad. From the reviews they seem to be good and they supply a few pro teams so that should put your mind at ease. On the other hand i dont recall seeing an official agent in SA beside bike-addict selling these, with omnico down the road from me stages is my choice as after sales service is most important with these products. They will all eventually give problems down the line and iam sure you dont want your money to be wasted. Andrew_Smith Posted April 5, 2018 Share 100% agree with you Malpiet. After sales service is really important, especially if you are spending quite a lot of money. Malpiet
