Thanks very much for the kind words and support.

Insurance has put a PI on the case and I have shared it round to people that I know involved in the security business.

Lets hope they can catch these guys

as you say my 2c and im not talking about this situation

our guy who does our stress tests says its always the person you would put your life on his innocence

in our case the guy we trusted the least turned out to be the honest guy, the other workers were not helping him with his jobs and pointing out his weakness in the workplace because he refused to help the others steal

moving along :offtopic:

Business literature is FULL of examples where the "most valued employee" is the guy that sinks the entire ship - Nick Leeson being the poster boy (he killed Barings Bank).

This was really bad. I feel for the guys at CC, but come on, barely month after the 1st incident and no real effort to improve security. Those camera positions are not exactly optimum. Maybe good to keep an eye on the shop during the day but not very effective for this type of event. There is so much more they can do. 1st thing is roller shutter doors - Who cares about a window shopper at 1am? They could even install teargas canisters that would discharge if the windows are shattered. If I was their insurance I would be asking some very pointed questions and be putting some pretty strict security requirements in place.

Look at West Rand Cycles - No window onto the road, Decent gates and fencing, Roller shutter doors, Alarm = zero break-ins.....

Hope the scum who did this get caught.

I DONT KNOW THE SHOP, BUT FROM EXPERIENCE,,,even if they wanted doors fitted after they got up and trading,,,,shutter doors normally have 4-6 weeks lead time, if you lucky

agreed it would stop snatch and grab

I think I've mentioned this before, but theft is certainly being driven from the top. I have a guy who works for me on the weekends at our home in Greenpoint. He lives on the street, so he has his fair share of exposure to crime, and when he saw that I had purchased a new road bike, he casually made mention of how often he gets the request to steal bicycles.

When I enquired a bit more, he was able to name some of the top bicycle names, i.e. Specialized, Santa Cruz, etc. - because the requests are quite specific, and it turns out they are coming from fairly wealthy people.

Couple of things to note is that these guys were calm, prepared (boltcutters, concrete to smash windows), knew what they wanted. They have done this before and have either inside information or scoped the place out well as they new they needed boltcutters, new about the sunglasses etc....well planned and confidently executed....Thes ebikes should be identifiable and hopefully Complete have the serial numbers...maybe publish those with pics of each model type?

Simple google hunt in the future might ID some sales.....One thing for sure, it is a helluva good idea to insist on an original invoice when buying a high end bike....If they are clever they will market them in Pta, DBn or even Cape Town....

They did not select any specific bikes but grabbed the closest most convenient bikes, they were also not too cautious as to how they picked up and dragged them out. Could explain the damaged bikes reportedly recovered.

Which ties into my earlier point...there are guys out there that don't ask where or how, they just want the latest and greatest...

i cannot image the insurance premium on this bike shop if everything was covered under the theft section..... Patches do you have more info??

cant see it myself,,,, our policy covers a good portion of our stock but vaaaark unless its world of watches I cant see the average shop having full stock cover, simply for the fact that it changes daily and value fluctuations

Would be interesting to know if the insurance pi's have the ability/ contacts to get a list of numbers at the cellphone towers around the shop for that time of the morning and then try to compare those numbers to towers a bit further away to see any correlation and the direction the numbers were moving in.

Just a heads up.

Not sure if one of these bikes stolen was an S-Works epic 2017 (black with neon yellow branding).

Driving on wemmer pan road between rosettenville at 12:50pm today and a dude that definitely doesn't look like your stereotypical S-works rider cruises past nonchalantly looking more like your average commuter.

Apologies to the cyclist if you were innocently riding to the shops dressed casually on your bike

Yip, these guys are not cyclists....they carelessly grabbed the bikes "by the scruff of the neck"...

Good PI should be able to do just that. I suggested that in the hit and run which killed Andrew Bradford in Boskruin...MUST be possible.
