Been thinking about the water situation and the possibility that taps will start running dry soon. I need some info on how to prepare for this. No water for the toilet is 1 of the 1st problems that will have to be dealt with.

I was more concerned about the water I waste on washing my kit after every ride. So now I pull the hose out from the wall that drains water from the machine. Still using eco wash I let the water drain into a bucket which then becomes flushing water or plant water!

Bikes get washed in the bath using less than a bucket of water.

Still, nothing uses water like a human! We are headed for hard times!

Is this a safe method for the bike considering the washing detergent and possibly softener in it?

Haven't bothered washing mine for a year. I just keep the mechanical/moving areas clean and screw the rest....!

I suppose I could always take it down to the taxi rank for a hose off....!

Hogwash? Are you telling me you wash your pigs in bottled water?

Ye shall reap what ye "sow" when the environmental apocalypse is finally upon us.

HA I knew somebody was going fall for that hogwash!! Sucker!

They are not, its an Obama conspiracy!

After every ride, wipe the gunk off of the seals on the fork, shock and dropper and wipe the chain and re-lube.

You don't need to wash your bike because it has a light coating of dust. I've gone weeks in the dry season without washing my bike.

I have a 2500 litre JOJO tank. Wash my bike only once a month because its not necessary after every ride, just clean the drivetrain.

Oh and I top-up my pool with it too :whistling:

sorry a bit off topic here -

so my question on the JoJo tanks is this. In Cape Town it rains in winter so tank gets filled up and doesn't get used. In summer when there is no rain, and you use the water from the tank 2500 litres is not going to last very long?

I see your point but here in Joburg it's different. Lots of rain in summer which suits the swimming season, little rain in winter but pool not really in use and if you put a pool blanket or it reduces the evaporation. You will also be surprised how quickly the jojo fills even in a small drizzle
