Lynnie_the_Snail Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 I couldn't believe when I heard another accident like this happened... what is going on....
Wannabe Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 Heart breaking news.R.I.P. Cyclist. Condolences to his friends and family.Quick and full recovery to the injured ones. To the driver of the car, may the fleas of a thousand camels invade your nether regions.
ShaneG Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 Hi, Firstly THANK YOU to the entire cyclist community who stopped to assist Greg and myself. Duane, who joined us - what a great help! Albie (Dr) who arrived next to assist with Greg and all the other cyclists whose name I did not get. THANK YOU! Unfortunately my friend Greg passed away shortly after we arrived at the hospital. My injuries I can deal with. The driver, an (ex - as reported by police) fireman had been out all night with friends. I believe they stopped in Kuilsriver to purchase "products" to stay awake. By all accounts the driver fell asleep and drove into Greg and myself. All the time I asked the police and ambulance services to take a breathalyser test. I was told yesterday that this did not happen. I want to make a call on all cyclists who have lost a friend, had an incident or know of someone who has passed. Let’s establish 1 day a year where all cycle in unity across the country in memory of the fallen cyclists. If students and employees can disrupt traffic with marches for various causes, surely we can also cycle in UNITY to make motorists aware that we are also entitled to be on the roads. I would appreciate all assistance if this could be realised - even if a fund could be administered from a small donation that could go to cyclists’ families where an incident has left them destitute. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. Again, to all the cyclists who stopped to help my friend Greg and myself, THANK YOU! If you would like to call, please contact me on 072 990 5378.
Tubehunter Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 Sincere condolences Shane! Please know that many of us share to some extent the feelings you are going through even though we may never have met Greg personally, as we entirely relate to the fragile nature we expose ourselves to, in chasing after this passion that fuels us to ride. Thank you for taking the time to visit here and provide some further feedback! It is truly valued!
Eugene Oppelt Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 All the best, ShaneGThank you for taking the time to write about your feelings and thoughts ????????
Patchelicious Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 I'm so sorry for your loss. Has the driver been identified yet?
Mechanick Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 Surely a lie detector test can indicate some form of possibility of what happended or what they had been doing.
davidl Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 My condolences to his loved ones. When will the authorities take decisive action against the perpetrators of such heinous deeds.
T-Bob Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 Deepest sympathy, condolences, thoughts and prayers to all involved. Thank you for the information and the infuriating fact that the simple boxes weren't ticked with a breath test. There should be pressure put on levels of the SAPS that all drivers involved in any RTA are breathalysed as a matter of course... but apologies, that is for another day's discussion. Strongs to all involved.

Sorry for your loss Shane. Has anybody suggested a ghost bike at the place of the incident?
