Which police department opened the case?

Stellenbosch Police Dept. The Traffic deportment did not arrive at all. I have been back twice to the scene. Taken Photos and did the measurements. Hopefully the Detective can use the information.

The worst, after the incident. The vehicle that collided with us stopped some distance (+-100m) from the accident. The passengers of the vehicle drove away and left the one "Fireman" behind.

I believe that a mass ride through the suburbs to the local traffic authority perhaps to hand over a memorandum or a petition in all major cities on a specific day is a winning idea and one that i would happily participate in and contribute to financially. Something that attracts media attention and that is inclusive of sports people and commuters from all walks of life.

This would take a level of organisation that a body like PPA could and I believe should provide.

It would also take a commitment from a sugnificant number of cyclists.

My condolences on the horrific experience and loss of your friend Shane. I have thought of you both every day since first reading of this tragedy.

Surely the left behind "pasengers' details are know to the SAPS and surely he must give the name of the driver who should be arrested at least for driving off.

Any attoney/cyclist in the area who could exert some pressure ?

I saw Alan Winde at a race with cycling kit ..contact him .

What is PPA doing about it ?

The Chap that was left behind admitted to driving, then recanted. I believe one of the passengers has been caught. One is still at large.

I believe there is a person who said he was on the site and saw the black Golf stop immediately. We have photographic proof that the Golf stopped about 100m away. Agian THANK YOU to fellow cyclist who took the initiative to photographthe incident

Hi, Please give me more details

Its normally a bike painted white and placed at the location of the accident with the fallen riders name on it to remember him and remind motorists and cyclists about what is at stake.

Obviously would need the family consent, I am sure the hub could organise a bike as the ghost bike and a day to place it.

I am sure there are people that know the legal/logisitics of this better than I do and they will share their knowledge.

The fact that we are starting to use these words are saddening  :(

Hi Shane,

Condolence on your loss and the extended family, truly a terrible incident.

A friend and myself witnessed that Black Velocity Gold drive off from the scene and we chased it all the way to Bloekombos where we lost it in the township.

Here's the car in question, the damage to the left windscreen and mirror can be seen.

The first photo is as he entered back onto the road from the accident scene.

The second photo is as he was heading into Kraaifontein

Let me know if I can assist in any way.

Sorry for your loss, Shane. Condolences with the death of your friend.

If you are a PPA member (or if Greg was) please put pressure on them to start putting their (our) money to use, and assist with the prosecution of the Driver, and also the SAPS / Traffics for not doing their work properly.

Once again, sorry for the terrible ordeal you are being put through.
