Hi Guys

This year I will be doing my first Cape Argus, Yeah!!

A bit nervous cause my bike is not that advanced

I have a Axis A70

It's a good ride

I am doing the Argus for the experience and fun

However, I don't want to struggle

Any advice

Should I just excercise a lot , ride hills and just go and enjoy myself, put on slicks

Or should I think of buying new bike

Let me know

Regards

Just enjoy your first Argus with what you have. Go out there and soak up the atmosphere. Talk with people, stop when spectators offer you a beer or whatever, and chat with spectators. Don't go chasing a time on your first. You will be disappointed and miss the whole point of the World Funride Champs.

Know the route. Then you can pace yourself and calculate your effort.

That way you don't blow yourself on the fast sections, but have something in the tank for Chapmanns and Suikerbossie.

Most important : Enjoy yourself

Get slicks

Go for a few 90 km rides and work out a fueling strategy (what and when to eat)

If you can, do most of the route at least once especially Simonstown - Green Point

Don't worry about time, just steady pace

Don't take it too seriously, its great fun (unless the Doctor is full-on)

Any bike will do, just make sure its mechanically in good shape  and you can deal with a flat.

Whatever you do, Do Not train during the week of the Argus. Rest yourself. Too many people give it full force the week before and on race day, they are tired and therefore buggered.

Ditto previous comments for slicks. But aim to get at least two rides in on slicks before the event so you can get used to how the bike feels.

But as far as exercise goes, if you haven't started already, there's not much you can accomplish between now and the event.

In my view, completing the Cycle Tour is within the reach of most reasonably fit people, just take it real slow, drink and eat from beginning to end, and enjoy the ride...

if you think you will struggle to finish the distance, roll down every hill you can. That will help get you through.

Unless die wind vies in which case it takes a concerted effort to cycle down most of those declines, if you can manage to stay on your bike that is.

remember to check your QR's are tight before the start ^_^

enjoy yourself -rest when you are tired -chat to your fellow riders - you are there to enjoy not to prove anything

you'll be fine

Enjoy, but be aware of your surroundings at all times. At times the later bunches resemble a herd off migrating wildebeest. I once fell going up Suikerbossie because the guy next to me lost his balance, couldn't uncleat in time and took three of us with him down to the tarmac.

You can always try the Tour de PPA that is being held this weekend in durbanville, would suggest you do the shorter route (72km).

Must admit for my first Argus I drove the route the weekend before with my car  to get a sense of the route.

Please do go out for at least two rides in the week just don't push it.

Enjoy the ride - go for better time next year.

Welcome to the hub.
