To those who have done both, how does it compare ?

I've heard from a few cyclists that 94.7 is tougher than Argus....your thoughts on this and why ?

Thanks

All depends..

Group

Wind

Conditioning

Trust me Suikerbossie is no laughing matter at 95km odd in if you are already hurting, wind or no wind.

Last year I had a great start and a good group which stuck together until Chappies. Hoping that this year will be better. I am in better shape and have a better start group

Easier?

No

Harder

No - but it is longer

CTCT is longer and more elevation assent, but at lower altitude.

But really, how tough a ride is depends all on how hard you push.

Are you trying to stay with a group that is a bit too fast for you, you are going to suffer.

Are you pushing your self to beat you PB, you are going to suffer.

Want to have fun, and don't care about how fast your are, it will be easy.

Racetec's  "Beta Factor" for 94.7  can also be used as a guideline

For me the climbs at the CTCT are longer and steeper that 94.7.

And Suikerbossie at the end is a killer!

I also think the 947 is tougher ,endless rolling hills very few sections where you can recover but again also depends on your fitness level and the way you approach the race by that I mean if you are racing or just cruising

This is always an interesting debate - hard to say because they are so very different!

Imo - per kilometer the 94.7 route is probably tougher with all the rollers and less "free" kilometers.

But the Argus extra distance and conditions on the day can be a big equaliser especially for the middle to back of the field

Take it from a social rider.  974 is tougher with the rolling hills. No time to recover and with Steyn City at the end, eish.  Take away Chappies and Suikerbossie and the CTCT is a walk in the park.      Better not show my face in CT next weekend. But serious, I find 947 tougher except for 2009 the storm Argus race.
