Help a Buffalo!

Had a look at Pyga and only reason for not choosing it is the positioning of the rear shock. Granted I know nothing about bike geometry etc but I am convinced that having the rear shock up near the top tube makes for a stiffer ride - which I prefer.

Not an engineer are you?

Ride the pyga before deciding.... otherwise buy a Santa Cruz.

That said I just went and read up on the Pyga Stage and it does sound cool

Im not trying to be funny but at your weight you arent going to be winning races, so a more comfortable bike with around 120mm travel would probably be the best.

I would say stay away from the twitchy race steeds and go for something with slightly more relaxed geo, the 'dale si, camber and stage max would be good for that.

No offense taken, agree 100% about not winning races!  I just thought that a bike with less travel probably equated to a stiffer ride and more efficient pedaling which in turn would make my life easier.

But these are all assumptions on my part hence the thread.

All input is appreciated.

It not going to be much more efficient and the race geometry doesnt make for a comfortable ride if you are spending hours in the saddle. I still believe that only the very pointy end of the field should be on the twitchy race steeds and everyone else(myself included) should be on a more comfy and more enjoyable bike.

Some day somebody will get advice on the list they provide... shame, you have had more alternatives suggested than advice given on your list.

So how about this for a change of scenery. Based on your listed info, go check out and ride the Camber, seems the most appropriate bike on your current list.

If you look at the Stage, be sure to check the Max... think Iwan did a write up recently.

Does Spez come with a lifetime warranty on the frame?

He'll need it with his 110kgs

Based on the 4 bikes that OP listed that would be my choice.

What's your suggestion?

From your list: Camber

Recommendation: SC or Pyga (or maybe that is my wishlist...?) although SC may be a little beyond the dosh you are looking to spend.

Not sure about weight limits on the Spez so probably something you should be looking in to.

Giant also a good option - in stock form they are below your budget, but for durability and lifetime frame warranty, something you should consider. Money you save from going with Giant can go towards buffalo wheels (although stock PXC2 jobbies are bomb proof already) or the ultimate in my book for a 29er Anthem - 120mm fork up front. That alone transformed my already capable XC/Trail Anthem to a more comfortable, confidence inspiring (sometimes a little reckless) machine.

Happy shopping! and enjoy Sani...

I was a similar position to you, quite heavy, needed a playful XC marathon bike and got a Pyga 110 and love it - the alu bike, not a carbon stage. It is one very strong bike and tons of fun.
