Possible stolen Scott Spark (910, 2014?) - Eastern Cape

Spotted between Idutywa and Ngcobo (Eastern Cape) in very questionable circumstances.

Anyone had a Scott Spark 910 (2014 model?) stolen in the Umthatha/Idutywa/Ngcobo area recently?

Bike has carbon frame with full XT, maxxis tubeless crossmark and what looks like an Extreme endurance light.

Seen this morning.

Went into a village between Idutywa and Ngcobo.

SAPS was called and spotter followed guy with bike. Had to leave before SAPS responded (if they ever did).  More info on FunTrax Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/321898174525749/permalink/1235629316485959/

Please share info.  I've looked to see what's reported here and don't see similar.  Maybe someone had their bike ripped off a carrier on the N2 driving through Eastern Cape in Idutywa or Umthatha.  Bike is in good condition with lots of extras (pedals, light, saddle bag) so possibly recent?

Would be great to find it's legal owner and finish off the good work of the guy who spotted it in the first place.

Well done on posting this, however prepare yourself for a flaming attack from a few that are going to either say "he could have bought it" or that his grandmother left it to him in her will or something along these lines. I've found that doing a good deed sometimes gets twisted here in the exciting hub land

Personally, well done on doing the right thing

Yes, some may think that.

Small price though if the bike is stolen and it's rightful owner gets it back.

I've purposefully kept the guy's name out of this post (who spotted the bike) so flame me if you like.  I'll be happy to apologize should I be wrong in thinking there's a little problem here that needs to be sorted out.

Rather wrong than did nothing!!

There is a difference between saying its a possible stolen bike and calling that guy a criminal. He might have bought it from somebody, but that doesn't make it any less stolen.

You did the right thing by posting a possible stolen bike. SPD pedals, expensive battery pack light, saddle bag.... not your average commuter items.

Myself I do also track bikes that look suspect, and the hub has helped guys reunite bike and real owner. So my take obviously if in doubt no harm in checking, lots of commuters end up buying bikes for R3000-R5000 from gumtree scamsters and just general sales.

We love bikes we know the specs we know the tyres WE LOVE BIKES.

General worker commuters mostly don't know the difference I'm not saying ignorance makes you exempt from the law, but many of these commuters get taken for suckers, when a HUBBER staff member initially stopped my stolen niner(bike shop mechanic) he asked him nice bike blah blah,,,by the way how much did you pay??? His answer R3000

That he had been saving for some time for a reliable commuter,,,,,that's how I knew in which area my niner was and it all contributed towards "finding" my bike

First thing I check value of ride ,,pedals,,extras that generous previous owners would have removed if they handed down the ride,,,and if a 6ft giant is on a small and nothing has been changed on the setup to make it more comfortable

I just remembered ,,,,,that pic of the guy with the stolen bike that still had its race number on it lol

Stop being so frigging polite. That's a stolen bike and that's a THIEF.

Jip. Stolen. Take the bike from him. Post it on FB and here on the hub. The owner will make contact. The last bike that I posted on FB after confiscating it from a thief, took exactly 20min for the owner to make contact with me.

Cyclists know cyclists. Somebody will recognise the bike.

Yip definitely stolen. If not by him, by someone he got the bike from.

"Reunited and it feels so good...." comes to mind... I hope the original owner is reunited with his/her bike...

Well done to the OP for spotting and reporting...

Did the cops ever show up and confiscate it?

I doubt the guy in the picture stole the bike. If he had, he wouldn't stand still and smile for his photo to be taken. He probably bought it from the thief for a couple hundred bucks.
