NicoBoshoff Posted April 20, 2017 Posted April 20, 2017 Here's the thing though - so basically Spez (Stumpy and Enduro), Santa Cruz (Hightower), Cube (Stereo), Trek (Slash) and Scott (Genius 29) have committed their pro's to the big wheels. Is this a case of as soon as other brands start going that way their riders will follow? Are riders on these bigger wheels because that's what the marketing teams are telling them to ride? Sam Hill has the option of riding a Mega 29 but prefers 27.5. Trek athletes could however go Remedy and not Slash, but seem to go Slash. Santa Cruz still has the Nomad, but the team is on the HT. But I could argue the Hightower is the new sled that needs the marketing. Would be very interesting to know how much riders get to dictate what they ride once they sign on for a team.
NicoBoshoff Posted April 20, 2017 Posted April 20, 2017 hahaha, fact checking 101 Yeah yeah. Amply red-faced here. I just genuinely thought Ravanel was on a Hightower for some reason (she's on a Meta).
NicoBoshoff Posted April 20, 2017 Posted April 20, 2017 PS I think it's fair to say that 26" is d-e-d.
Eddy Gordo Posted April 20, 2017 Posted April 20, 2017 All marketing for sure. Need to sell stagnant models and not at a loss. What would you do?

Legitimate question. SC is pushing the Hightower hard. Virtually all of their athletes and ambassadors are on the HT. I know Winton does have a Remedy 27.5 that she keeps as a back-up. Long story short: the companies are pushing 29ers as race bikes. Anything else is slower.
Captain Fastbastard Mayhem Posted April 20, 2017 Posted April 20, 2017 PS I think it's fair to say that 26" is d-e-d.just that there aren't any manufacturers making 26 anymore. And personally, if I were racing, I'd prefer to be on the most up to date platform that I've got access to...

And as long as thew results come in they can always argue "It actually IS about the bike".
NicoBoshoff Posted April 20, 2017 Posted April 20, 2017 I mean, if Ratboy himself races a Hightower with his 5010CC being his "play bike" you know that either a) it's true or b) that Koolaid sure tastes mighty yummy.
Odinson Posted April 20, 2017 Posted April 20, 2017 Stoppielorrie. This discussion should actually be on the EWS thread. Admin, be a darling and move this over.
Duane_Bosch Posted April 20, 2017 Posted April 20, 2017 Would be very interesting to know how much riders get to dictate what they ride once they sign on for a team.I'm pretty sure Sagan's puppy was held hostage by the big S to force him to ride roubaix on the Spez Roubaix.
Headshot Posted April 20, 2017 Posted April 20, 2017 PS I think it's fair to say that 26" is d-e-d.Its only DED in your HED :-) No but it is - doesn't work at all...
