R415 for the 98km.

:w00t:

There was a 92km race this weekend in Pretoria, cost a total of R180 to do it, same sort of profile. Glad I rode it.

We should talk with our attendance and really support these smaller events.

Which group?

Personally I did the 52km ride actually, was under trained to do the full one. Still a very lekker local race.

(Was just making the point on costing for similar distance events)

I also did this event. What a pleasure. R180 entry, collected number the morning of race, well marshaled with cones etc. Timed by Racetec, finished and then had beer and pancakes for less than R20.

I totally agree that we should support these more. Paying R400 for these other events is a complete waste for most of us. Huge efforts to get numbers, we don't normally stop at the tables anyway. And honestly no justification for more than double the price.

We had an excellent race and will happily drive from JHB to compete. Will definitely be back.

R415 ??

Hosted by Lions with proceeds going to charity, Wilro Lions R250 early entry R280 late entry timed by racetec and collection on race day.

If only it was not on the same weekend as the Maluti double90

But it only shows you what can be done if you don't CHASE money.

and the race will still have a lot of entrants. I will not be one of them though.

Me too. Our group did the route on Sunday as a training ride so that's Emperors done as far as I am concerned.

I ask myself what I am receiving for entry fee and since I don't use water points, don't want another medal, don't want a goodie bad, can source my own Powerade/Coca cola afterwards and I don't care about pre-printed numbers, I really cannot justify the cost.

If you have road closures then we can talk otherwise not interested in paying to ride on a road I can ride for free any other day.

Amashova is R400, which I would actually easily pay as it is full road closure and an amazing route. Only CTCT is in the same class in terms of route quality. Haven't done Jock yet but I do think it does come close as well.

All the other ASG events don't really cut it to justify the cost premium IMHO.

Can't see myself doing Emperors this year, rather making arrangements to do the Lydenberg MTB event that weekend. (Incidentally it is R180 to do it, which is a reasonable price for me.)

personally did the short route last year with my wife as her first road event. This was good to get her used to what happens at starts etc on a nice easy ride and route but other than that, I would not be riding this event as it is daylight robbery. Premium full closure event prices for riding open routes with very little done for the cyclists? I think not.

I wont be entering very many (if any) ASG events again I think... Always felt the value was lacking from their events.

As a new cyclist and a pretty excited one, im not at that point to question pricing for events, i entered ride for sight and now the emperors 98km race as my second event ever however reading the above posts puts a bit of a damper on things but i fully agree if its daylight robbery then there is no point entering when the next week you can just get some mates and ride the route.

You'll enjoy the route.  Bit boring but flat and fast.
