I posted link to the whole dirt mag (?) video that clip comes from in the other cornering thread by mongooser. Now I can't find it any where. It's packed full of good tips.

I think you have all got it wrong, including Fab. If you are losing your front wheel it means that your QR or 15mm axle is not tight enough. No properly tightened front wheel will fall off in a corner. Come on.

I recently moved from a very slack 26 inch trail bike to a stumpy 29er. (hooray for bikes getting stolen) and it feels like I am a lot more over the front wheel than I used to be when cornering.

Maybe I am just putting too much weight on the front?

If you feel like that, you're more than likely moving your centre of gravity too far back and causing the front to wash. You need weight on the bars to get the front to grip.

I was waiting for this comment.....

it keeps happening i think its cos I wheelie out the corners every time and i removed the through axle in order to save weight.....

If your front end is just pushing wide or washing out, might be worth looking at your forks, check the air spring pressure and maybe drop spring rate slightly to get the fork into it's stroke and then ease the rebound off a few clicks, not too much though, suspension is all about balance

1. Tyre pressure - if its over 1.8 bar its too hard

2. Weight too far back, you need to lean forward a bit and weight the front wheel

3. Technique, push your arm/handlebar into the corner - So for a right hand corner push your right hand/bar into the ground - right arm will nearly be straight and left arm bent.

4. Weight on the left pedal keeping your body as verical as possible with the bike transitioned over between your legs.

5. Twist your hips into the corner - point your belly button towards the exit of the corner.

6. Eyes look through the corner at the point where you will exit.

7. Practice Practice practice

Sorted

Oh ! and just to add, if you on a 29er and you are under stearing through the corners consider a shorter stem. I replaced my 90mm with a 50mm, the thing corners like a 26er now

I'm hosting a 'conquering corners' skills session this Sunday if you really want to improve fast! Some good advice on here (except for the tyre pressure comments-tyre pressures are highly variable and depend on rider weight, tyre models and ground conditions) and I can help point out factors and positioning that are causing your cornering woes.

Email me on info at irideafrica.com if anyone is keen!

Always keen to add to the skills box. Where is this going down and how many randellas do you sell your skills for? :)
